Former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon is helping to craft the curriculum for a leadership course at a right-wing Roman Catholic institute in Italy, stepping up his efforts to influence conservative thinking in the church.
Benjamin Harnwell, director of the Dignitatis Humanae Institute based in a mountaintop monastery not far from Rome, told Reuters Bannon had been helping to build up the institute for about half of its eight-year life.
Cardinal Raymond Burke, a leading Vatican conservative who is president of the Institute’s board of advisers, said Bannon would be playing a leading role there.
Burke told Reuters he looked forward to working with Harnwell and Bannon “to promote a number of projects that should make a decisive contribution to the defense of what used to be called Christendom”.
Bannon, who has visited the Institute’s home at the 800-year-old Monastery of Trisulti and addressed the organization by video link, is helping to draw up the coursework for a training program for conservative Catholic political activists and leaders, Harnwell said.
Bannon is also raising funds for the institute in both Europe and the United States, he added. The institute has set “very high academic standards”, Harnwell said.
Harnwell said the Institute was setting up two training programs: a leadership course that Bannon is helping to design, which Harnwell described a an “academy for the Judeo-Christian West”, and the Cardinal Martino Academy, named after a former papal ambassador to the United Nations, which will promote pro-life Catholic social teachings.

in Catholic Schools of Italy. He’s been a busy bee over the last year, but mostly outside the United States.
Of course, Steve is worth at least $48 Million Dollars, so he can go where he wants to go, invited or not.

He was in the news recently in Italy, making comments about the Church crisis.
I guessed at the time he was doing or aiming for some Church consulting gig.
I have no way of knowing, but for someone of Steve Bannon’s experience and intellect to go traipsing from country to country like a College Kid on Spring Break sends a message.
I suspect Mr. Bannon is just biding his time until he is invited to re-enter TrumpWorld. My guess is he staying in touch with the president on a regular basis, whether General Kelly or Javanka like it or not.
While most people's concept of time can't go beyond the bulging headlines atop a gadget screen, or the latest sensationalized squabble between Left and Right -- Steve Bannon understands that the struggles we face as a society are CIVILIZATIONAL and HISTORIC and SPIRITUAL in nature.
And while the founding of America may be one of the crowning achievements of Western Civilization, her roots are not found in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue -- but in Europe. In the ancient foundations of Christianity. Her towering cathedrals. In Rome especially. And the Catholic Church.
Bannon is also helping Marine Le Pen's niece, Marion Marechal set up her school for France's future leaders.
This is not about politics. This is about the battle to recover Christendom itself.
If Bannon is helping this generation of LePens, then his time there is fully worthwhile.
