We were over to visit friends who move to Kauai a couple of years ago. You would think you are in Tokyo. The Japanese won the Islands, not by bombing them, but by moving there after WWII. Our son-in-law is half Japanese. His mother was born here. Her family lost everything and were put in a camp during the War. She absolutely hates mainland Japanese. Went to Japan once to visit relatives, and said she’d never go back for a visit again.
