Firing Rosey might be a mistake. Trump can keep him under wraps at the DOJ, maybe even demote him. If he’s dumped he will join the punditry at MSM and become a hero to the left, which is not needed weeks before the mid terms.

Trump is in New York, so Rod won’t be meeting with him.

Maybe with the chief of staff...

That's his biggest fear, that the article he and his pals planted in the New York Times WON'T result in his firing. They believe that firing him would hurt Republicans in the midterms, and a Democrat Congress will impeach President Trump; and they believe they can spin a firing into an obstruction case, grounds for impeachment.

If he doesn't get fired, all of that goes away. So his next-best alternative is to resign, claiming that he was going to be fired.Hopefully (from their point of view), it has the same effect.

The problem is that if he resigns, Solicitor General Noel Francisco becomes Acting DAG, and therefore is in charge of the Russia probe.

I wonder if that prompts Sessions to un-recuse.

Sadly, it looks like this report was "premature."
