Washington Gun Control Initiative Puts 10-Day Waiting Period on AR-15 Purchases

Washington ballot initiative I-1639 puts a 10-day waiting period on AR-15 purchases and raises the minimum age for AR-15 purchases to 21.

The initiative also puts special background checks in place and adds other controls to such a degree that the Seattle Times reports the initiative’s passage will make “Washington’s firearms laws…among the strictest in the country.”

Washington state made news by passing universal background checks via ballot initiative in 2014. The initiative was bankrolled by millionaires and billionaires such as Steve and Connie Ballmer, Nick and Lenore Hanauer, and Bill and Melinda Gates, among others. The campaign supporting the initiative presented background checks as key to protecting Washington residents from gun violence. Yet now, just four years later, gun control proponents are pushing a new initiative full of restrictions, including “enhanced background checks.” According to the Times, $3.6 million has been donated to the new gun control initiative by “Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Paul Allen, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and venture capitalist Nick Hanauer.”

That’s why our founders made this a DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC. Not one based on mob rule via plebiscites taken after overly-hyped incidents.

The headline is misleading.

The initiative language redefines 'semi-automatic' to mean ALL rifles with semi-auto feeds, even a Remington .22 rifle.

It's step one in their gun registration ploy.

WA one of the last free states is about to fall.

Among other things, I1639, if passed, requires training certification to buy a firearm and the certification has to be renewed/refreshed every 5 years. Also, gun buyers would have to agree to give the state access to all of their medical records and mental health records.

Next up after the gun grabbing will be instituting state/county/city incomes taxes.

Actually the headline is wrong. The initiative puts a waiting period on ANY semiautomatic rifle. It defines as an assault weapon any semi-automatic rifle. It doesn't need to have a bayonet lug, flash suppressor, pistol grip, detachable magazine, or military look.....it just needs to be a semi-auto. Even a kids Remington nylon 66 22 tube magazine rifle (if passed) will be classified as an assault rifle.

What the hell does a 10 day waiting period for an AR-15 do? It is such a waste of time.

The Constitution clearly says the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, however the purchasing of arms to bear can be infringed upon for up to 10 days while the government investigates the purchaser and will decide of the citizen is qualified.

We just don't always quote the whole thing.

You have only to look to California as their eventual objective. Although California does allow AR-15 possession within limited parameters there is no inter-generational right of transfer. Since they are registered the state comes for them when you die. Your heirs cannot take possession at least not legally. I also expect at some time in the future since California now wants ammo purchases to go through a FFL that they will try to limit you to ammo and parts only for weapons that you have registered with the state.

Well, when your enemy knows that you won’t fight what do you expect but in your face agression. How did ugly women and beta cucks manage to have more balls and backbone than the Republicans? Hmmm. So, Washington patriots, pound those keyboards then go have some warm milk and cookies. The prog scum will take it from here since you won’t. Or can’t. King George III raised taxes and all hell broke loose. Here and now, well, you have already lost. But you still have your precious “honor!” Or something.

“...gun buyers would have to agree to give the state access to all of their medical records and mental health records.”

And there will be some who are deemed to be mentally unhealthy by people who are themselves mentally unhealthy.

So, will 18 year olds vote for a law that forbids them from buying an AR-15 till they are 21?
