I don't think she is all that upset about it. She knows her story is shaky, so she wants to avoid being asked questions about it. Saying she's fragile is a way of putting off testifying.
I do not know if she believes her story or not, but most likely politics played a role in her coming forward. Something happened to her with someone in some place at some time, and she's been brooding about it and convincing herself that it was Kavanaugh who attacked her. She may believe her story, but at some level she knows it has gaps and uncertainties.

There are all kinds of rumors, most of them started by people who don't have any first-hand (or even second-hand) knowledge. She has some kind of problems - that may be why her own family isn't backing her up - but just what those problems are we don't know for sure.
The view of the left of those of the right is that our core constituency is made up of people of religious convictions who will disassociate with a person who has done wrong or will not support evil doing politicians, especially old religious church ladies and gentlemen...that is how we are stereotyped.
That play book got thrown out in 2016 when Republicans including many evangelicals went for Trump....that is why the left is so flummoxed. The old sex smear and the Republican honorably resigns or withdraws doesn’t work anymore and the left instead are dealing with a more flint faced angry voting block that the “old tricks” don’t work on any more. The threats of violence by leftist groups aren’t working to intimidate like they hoped.
Kavanaugh has not withdrawn or resigned like they hoped and is willing to brave the upshot of smears and even not being confirmed...but it will put the senate on record as to who voted yea or nay. I pray every nay vote sears the consciences of the senators voting as such like the mark that was applied to Cain!
