Key senators for Kavanaugh's vote meeting in Capitol Office

Four key senators huddled privately in a Capitol office Thursday, just minutes after the Senate Judiciary Committee wrapped its day-long, blockbuster hearing of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, a woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia were spotted going into an office on the Capitol.

The three Republicans, who together are largely considered the deciding votes behind Kavanaugh nomination, are planning to attend the GOP conference meeting Thursday evening, according to an aide.

Republicans can advance Kavanaugh's without any support from Democrats, but given their 51-49 seat majority in the chamber, Kavanaugh's supporters can only lose one vote and still advance his nomination.

Flake is a particularly unique position as he is the only member of this group who also sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is currently still scheduled to vote on whether to sign off on Kavanaugh's nomination Friday morning. GOP leaders had pushed for a full Senate vote on Tuesday, October 2

Trump said if the Senate chokes he will announce the new nominee ten minutes later.

Manchin has been trying to suck the proverbial basket ball through the garden hose since his and his daugheter’s screw ups. He’s in the bag as a yes vote. He’s neck and neck in the polls with his senatorial challenger. A no vote ends his political career.

Same with Heitkamp in North Dakota. If she votes no she might as well clean out her locker and go home.

Unless you’re a democrat. Then you remain innocent even if proven guilty.

Although Flake was not as powerful as Graham when supporting Kavanaugh in the hearings, support him he did. I turned on a second TV at one point during a break and heard George Stefanopoulos talking to some other political hack and the hack basically said that after Kavanagh’s opening statement, any Dem senator running in a state Trump won will not win reelection if they vote against Kavanaugh, and he specifically called out Manchin and Heitcamp as having pretty much zero chance at reelection if they vote against him now.

I think the hearing really got to Flake. He could see that he was responsible for the shitshow.

#6: "Trump said if the Senate chokes he will announce the new nominee ten minutes later."

President Trump should nominate himself for the vacancy if Judge Kavanaugh is not confirmed. And he should announce his intent before the vote.

Leave Manchin out of the meeting. He is doing for optics to make it look like he is giving it serious consideration for W Virginia voters. He will not vote for Kavanaugh if the Republicans do not have the vote. He will if they have to vote to try to save his seat.
