Actually, an ass is a pretty savvy beast. There is a reason Grand Canyon tour guides use donkeys instead of horses to take visitors down into the bowl. An ass will never step into something it perceives could endanger its safety. A horse, on the other hand, will go in whichever direction you pull the reins.
Even right over a cliff. The last thing a rider sees before the abyss is the horse’s ass. IOW, Dick Durbin.
