I’m blanking on this one. What did Harriet Miers have as a positive, and why was she aborted from consideration before the vote? She was post-Thomas, so Bush should have known she’d be examined closely by the libs.

Im blanking on this one. What did Harriet Miers have as a positive, and why was she aborted from consideration before the vote?
Her nomination was withdrawn by Bush after heavy criticism by conservatives over her lack of qualifications and the perception that she was not a conservative. Miers was WH Special Counsel and a personal friend of Bush. She was appointed to head a committee to select potential SC nominees, but as Bush did with Cheney (who was originally the head of a committee to select candidates for the VP slot), he nominated Miers out of the blue.
After her nomination was withdrawn, Bush started taking advice from the Federalist Society, and nominated Sam Alito, who has been a solid conservative vote on the bench. Since then, the Federalist Society has become the premier source of advice for conservative justices - Gorsuch and Kavanaugh have their seal of approval, and
