"calling yourself a girl's 'alumnius' is being her friend"

Can someone explain this one to me?

What claim is being made?

One of the comments in Judge K’s yearbook is “Renate alumnius”. The NYT says it has something to do with sex with a friend whose name is Renate.

Renate is latin for Reborn, or Born again, Alumnius, I think, is student, scholar or graduate. I took it to mean “Born again a Graduate’. It might be High School boy latin, i.e., bad latin, which is pretty identical to my Latin, so do not quote me, find someone who is actually a latin Scholar!
