This 1945 recording is from the Axel Stordahl era with his overly sweet string arrangements.

Frank Sinatra: “I Only Have Eyes for You”

In 1963 Frank took another shot at this classic backed by Count Basie’s band in a Neal Hefti arrangement. This is more like the Frank we came to know and love.

You can measure a song’s greatness by the number of recording artists who take a crack at it. This especially holds true in the world of jazz where every artist presents his or her improvisation to the scrutiny of fellow jazz musicians and the public. This is early Peggy from 1947 backed by a small jazz combo. It’s a superb take on the song, one of the very best.
