DAMES: ”I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU”

This 1959 version redefined the song entirely. It was incredibly influential, if not definitive. The 2/4 time signature becomes the 6/8 slow dance tempo of the 1950s. There is heavy reverb, and the harmonies are dissonant in spite of a basic doo-wop approach. The effect is a dissociation from place and time. It’s an amazing piece of recording artistry.
