I witnessed this first hand.
In the Summer of 1995 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Operation Sea Signal was in full swing. The base was full of Haitian and Cuban migrants. Tempers flared in the camps and eventually, all of the migrants broke out of their camps to protest their inability to control their legal status, and the poor camp conditions under a hot Cuban sun.
The Army equipped its troops with riot gear and employed passive measures, absorbing the rocks and other missiles being thrown at them. Their strategy was to "push" migrants back into the camps.
The Marines had no such gear, and elected to stay with helmets, flak jackets, load bearing vests, rifle and bayonet.
As the chaos raged on, it became apparent that the migrants wanted access to the main side of the base, where the commissary, PX, McDonalds, base offices, and base housing were located. As they advanced with impunity the Marine Ground Forces stood their ground. ONE Lance Corporal bayonetted a migrant, and the devastating psychological impact, instantly halted the unruly mob. It was a thing a beauty to behold. I have long maintained that the most devastating weapons in Marine armories were Remington 870 shotguns and bayonets. The mob, retreated back to their camps, and main side was never threatened afterwards. The wounded migrant was transported to the naval hospital, and was treated.
When the National Guard is called out, it has to be recognizable by everyone that they are the last instrument the state has for restoring rule of law. The absolute last instrument are of course, federal troops. 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines (2/9) was my unit that was called upon to augment the California National Guard and the Los Angeles police department during the riots. We did not have riot gear and it was understood violent actors would be shot if they didn't heed commands. The violence stopped on a dime. Many people post the Koreans on top of the roofs of their stores. That was the interim period between mob rule, and when 2/9 arrived. After 2/9 occupied every major intersection with fire teams, the Koreans, or anyone else, didn't need to defend their businesses.
We need to think rightly when we communicate to our elected leaders on the proper use of deadly force. President Reagan had it right.
If Kavanaugh is confirmed, the Democrats literally have NOTHING else to run on. Has anyone spotted a single Democrat campaign ad running on the economy, employment, international relations, taxes, healthcare, etc? ANY??? And NOV 6 is just 38 days away. They have no choice but to start violent acts as a way to distract and use their usual Divisive Politics to try to win what they can. They have NOTHING else.
They are trying to draw Kavanaugh-supporting Americans into a street fight (which would be blamed on Kavanaugh-supporting Americans, of course.)
If Kavanaugh gets confirmed, the correct response is to smile and accept victory with grace and responsibility.

Congress and the military needs to exercise their authority over Washington DC by dismissing the local government and allow Republicans and their staff to be armed.
