Violent crime climbing in Denver and Colorado

Violent crime, including murders, are increasing in Denver and Colorado, according to new statistics from police and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Murders in Colorado have jumped 27 percent in the last three years. In 2015 there were 173 murders, while there were 220 in 2017.

...

murders in Denver have increased six percent in the last year. So far in 2018, there have been 51 murders, compared to 48 at this time last year, according to Denver Police.

Police say the increase is because there are more incidents where multiple people have been killed.

...

And for some perspective – Detroit is about the same size city as Denver, with a murder rate that’s about five times as high.

I must also be insane.

Only difference between me and the Fat Lady is I’d sell everything and move to the forest with dogs.

But of course, after a while the woods would suck, and they also have bears in the woods so, I think I’ll stay home!

Well in all fairness I have to say that the shop I went to was near Arvada, which is where my brother lives, so definitely not downtown or anything.

The one thing that bugged me about Colorado is that everything is so far away from everything else.

You put some miles on your car when you’re in Colorado.

I recall a Texas politician in the ‘70s objecting to the new national 55 mph speed limit. “If you drive 55 in Texas, you’ll never get anywhere!”

Yup. The eastern slope is now one massive metropolis, Ft Collins to Pueblo. The suburbs are the best place to live.

Wondered if that was the reason, the last article on crime stats said violent crime was DOWN. I Know that is BS.

I live in the next county to Memphis, our news is Memphis’s the first 10+ minutes is nothing but Killings, shootings, robberies. Well surpassed the 51 in Denver. 3-6 a night. Many are small children in the wrong place wrong time. Can’t even hold a party with out a shooting happening.

Local Target’s pharmacy was robbed of Xanax a few nights ago.

"Police say the increase is because there are more incidents where multiple people have been killed."

Lefties and gun control...

I was just in Denver 2 months ago, and it’s fine, you gaggle of clucking hens.

I've been in Denver 3 years ago, 10 years ago and 20 years ago. It's been getting progressively more scary. The last time I was there right after legalization, there were orders of magnitude more surly-looking vagrants roaming around. This is what legalization brings. Ain't it grand?

Sounds about the same as every other place on earth too.

But didn’t see a single surly looking vagrant around.

Not one. Not in the store. Not anywhere.

Ah, the legalization of Marijuana does many things

BS. From the article:

'criminologist Dr. Andrea Borrego [...] told FOX31 crime increases for a number of reasons. This includes a change in how crime is reported – which does affect the CBI numbers – to the economy, population growth and population density.

'“If crime ever goes up … you want to look into what’s going on. Should we have some kind of moral panic going on? No, probably not,” Dr. Borrego said.

CO murders have been rising since 2010 - 4 years before legalization: https://coloradocrimestats.state.co.us/public/View/dispview.aspx?ReportId=179

Thank you for the logic you posted NobleFree, this thread needed it.

“If you have a pot shop in your small town, then it’s coming your way.”

Not so here in Jacksonville, Florida.

I visit a medical cannabis dispensary multiple times a month & have never seen a single panhandler anywhere near the store. No vagrants, no loiterers either. Just patients coming & going.

Boy, that’s dumb.

Some people just don't see the dripping sarcasm from a post.
