I hope he succeeds too, but without more public subsidies:

27 Sept: The Hill: Electric carmakers turn to Congress as tax credits dry up
By Miranda Green
Electric car manufacturers are only allowed to offer a federal tax break on their first 200,000 vehicles sold under a 2009 law, and many are now hitting that cap, most notably Tesla...
That’s setting off a fight in Congress, where Democrats are eager to extend the breaks and help the growing electric car industry but Republicans hope to end what they see as an unnecessary subsidy...
In the letter, the groups pointed to a 2018 study that found that nearly 80 percent of the electric car tax credits filed in 2014 were given to households with an average income of $100,000 or higher...

Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), said Republicans don’t always follow through on eliminating green tax breaks. He called the debate over car credits a “test case.”...

Tucker only produced 51 cars. And IIRC rather than truly innovating he borrowed good ideas from other cars such as the Cord.

There was always the question of whether Tucker was more of a financial promoter than someone who really wanted to successfully produce cars. Musk quite obviously enjoys making and doing things.

Tesla federal subsidies drop in half in January 2019. Drop by another half in July 2019. And end with 2019. Interesting that they were signed into law by Dubya.

We don’t hate Musk. I like the fellow. We hate Tesla using taxpayer monies through electric car subsidies.

Saying that he’s like Steve Jobs isn’t helping him. Steve Jobs made his ex-girlfriend and daughter live in a scuzzy apartment and denied that she was even his daughter. This was at a time when he was worth a piddling $30 million. He saw his daughter for the 3rd time when she was 13 years old, ole Steve was a hell of a guy.
