The Chill of Solar Minimum
spaceweatherarchive.com ^ | September 27, 2018 | Dr.Tony Phillips

Sept. 27, 2018: The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age. Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018, and the sun’s ultraviolet output has sharply dropped. New research shows that Earth’s upper atmosphere is responding.

“We see a cooling trend,” says Martin Mlynczak of NASA’s Langley Research Center. “High above Earth’s surface, near the edge of space, our atmosphere is losing heat energy. If current trends continue, it could soon set a Space Age record for cold.”

To help keep track of what’s happening in the thermosphere, Mlynczak and colleagues recently introduced the “Thermosphere Climate Index” (TCI)–a number expressed in Watts that tells how much heat NO molecules are dumping into space. During Solar Maximum, TCI is high (“Hot”); during Solar Minimum, it is low (“Cold”).

“Right now, it is very low indeed,” says Mlynczak. “SABER is currently measuring 33 billion Watts of infrared power from NO. That’s 10 times smaller than we see during more active phases of the solar cycle.”

Well we’re in the 50’s again tonight and the heater is on again! Too soon to be this cool here.

53 here in MA-—but I’m in a 13 year old, extremely well insulated building and I rarely turn the heat on.

It was like a miracle to me. :-)

This means nothing!!!! The globe will get COLDER but not as COLD AS IT WOULD HAVE GOT!!! Man is still interfering with the natural climate cycle. Cities being overtaken by glaciers and the untold misery and death that accompanies cold (versus warm) temperatures is part of GAIA’S natural cleansing cycle. Cold will take the place of mosquitos in keeping the population in check.

We must stop the warming so that the Earth can experience its natural amount of cooling.

Ya’ll are raping Gaia, your just a bunch of Kavs.

Think I posted this prediction here before, but the graph shows around 2020.

The Eddy Minimum amplification will max around 2020.

Study: Solar Cycle To Cause A ‘Mini Ice Age’ As Early As 2020

Watch the AGW narration claim the mini-ice age is the result of warming. It is happening now.

HF radio propagation is in the absolute toilet.

If only we hadn’t antagonized Ole Sol with our profligate Gaia-killing ways, he would have maintained his proper ultraviolet energy output. We need to appease him right away! Sacrifice some SUVs!

Thank you. I appreciate this reply very much. The last several years I have been hearing about the oceans wormimg up as an indicator of Global Warming.

From what little I understand of thermodynamics this would mean that heat is being extracted from another source right? Just like A/C it is being extracted from the atmosphere in the cell cycles correct?

Never thought about skip being affected. But that makes sense. Do you keep an eye on this great site?

Thing is... This is a new variable that has never been looked at before.

What are you talking about? This is NOT a "new variable". Unless you only read the Demonrat media, solar activity has been correlated with temperature averages on earth at least since the Maunder Minimum and the Little Ice Age.

Indeed it is. It’s a good thing we hams have good low-SNR modes like FT8 and FT8Call in times like this. I made a contact with NZ at an SNR of -24 dB.

The Ice Age is still ending.

Glaciers are still receding and land is still rising from the lost weight of the glaciers.

It has been going on for the last 20,000 years.

That's back when New York and the northern part of North America were buried under ice up to 2 miles thick by the glacier known as the Laurentide ice sheet.

Lots of equatorial natives should be heading back to warmer climes.

We’ve got about another year to prep for the Eddy Minimum.

Bitter cold temps are already being forecast for this winter, but the next one is going to be really brutal.

And I would entertain the idea that the physical North Pole was once right smack dab in the middle of the Laurentide ice sheet at that time.

And you are right, it is a long slow process of colder/warmer periods but in the bigger picture it has still been warming up from the last Ice age.

But that has now leveled off and heading downward according to the ice studies. We are at a maximum interglacial and heading back into a glacial.

The timeline is like clock work and it is time once again...

So we want to be releasing MORE CO2 into the atmosphere to help keep the heat IN. Right?

Quick! Burn more coal, oil, and wood. Tear down all the wind turbines and solar panel farms.

The forecasts for the USA/area this winter is for a drier northwest, and low temps for the central and east coast, wetter than normal for the southwest and warmer for south of Greenland.

What happens is a warm area south of Alaska and south of Greenland. The Euro nations get a hell of a winter, which they have had a taste of already-snow in the higher regions of the alps etc. And these snows happened in August? this year. There was snow in Glacier Park the last of August this year also-much earlier than usual.
