McConnell: Senate will hold Kavanaugh vote 'this week'
The Hill ^ | OCTOBER 1, 2018 | Jordain Carney

Posted on 10/01/2018 9:06:28 PM PDT by familyop

"The time for endless delay and obstruction has come to a close. Judge Kavanaugh's nomination is out of committee. We're considering it here on the floor and ... we'll be voting this week," McConnell said.

McConnell's comments, made during a Senate floor speech, comes as the FBI has to wrap up its investigation into multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh by Friday.

GOP senators and aides have been careful not to pin down a specific timeline on Kavanaugh's nomination, arguing that the FBI could wrap up its work before the Friday deadline.

A bunch of them would have to backtrack.

AFAIK, Heitkamp and Manchin are the only 2 Dems who are holding out.

It seems like the rest don't care that their opponents are going to use it against them.

Or they think the public is so brainwashed that they'll overlook their "no" votes.

Heitkamp down by 10 pts. She may lose even if she votes for Kav.

No vote unless the votes to confirm are there… otherwise, let the People decide at the ballot box.

“he “might” get one redstate democrat fighting to save their seat as well.”

Both Manchin and Heitkamp (ND) are in very tight races and a NO vote could easily cost them their seat and they know it...haven’t seen any updated polling but I wonder about Tester in Montana and Donnelly in Indiana. I think Judge Kavanaugh will get at least two Ds voting Yes, and possibly more!

Then I want PDJT to immediately pull Flake’s security clearance in January when the new Congress is sworn in, which will severely limit his ability to cash in on lobbying gigs after his retirement.

If Judge Kavanaugh is not Confirmed Sen McConnel’s duty would be to resign from his position after the midterm elections. That is if we still hold the Senate. He will have proven he is unfit to serve in his current position. I truly believe he should resign even if Judge Kavanaugh is Confirmed for allowing the Democrat party to put this country and this man and his family and friends through this RAPE Hoax.

“I think Flake will vote yes. He’s made his point.”

Flake is still waffling via a BS statement to the effect that he’ll vote no if anything detrimental at all turns up about Kavanaugh from the 7th FBI investigation ... however, Flake is reportedly exploring running for Prez in 2020 and if that’s true, then if Flake votes NO on Kavanaugh, his “support” will be so diminutive that he’ll never even make the cut for a primary debate ...

Geese, flake said yesterday to newsweekly that trump should never have become president because trump challenged Obama birth certificate. Flake is a traitor.

The next day after he is confirmed it will be business as usual. Everyone will be “good friends” with their counterparts on the other side of the isle. Linsey Graham will act like he never threated to get to the bottom of what the dems did. And when that old bag-of-bones Ginsberg crokes and President Trump nominates the next conservative it will all start again. Do we have a gay conservative to nominate? They might be afraid to pick on him if we do. On second thought they would use the same lies even if we nominated the second coming of Christ.

Yes. Quite a few articles have appeared in North Dakota newspapers appealing to Heidi to vote for confirmation. She indicated that she would on several occasions, then only spoke more ambiguously on Friday. My guess, to avoid the noise until she’s out on a peaceful vacation.

He will be confirmed. Trump can’t appoint a SC judge with a recess appointment.

In case you haven't already seen it. There are influences that we don't see in the news, too.

Jeff Flake: I Will Vote to Confirm Brett Kavanaugh
Breitbart
by Sean Moran
September 28, 2018
[Excerpt from Jeff Flake's written statement, emphasis in bold mine:]
What I do know is that our system of justice affords a presumption of innocence to the accused, absent corroborating evidence. That is what binds us to the rule of law. While some may argue that a different standard should apply regarding the Senate’s advice and consent responsibilities, I believe that the constitution’s provisions of fairness and due process apply here as well.

I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.

[Coon's reaction as quoted in the article.]
"CNN reports that when Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) heard the news of Flake’s decision, his immediate response was, 'Oh f*ck.'"

“Trump can’t appoint a SC judge with a recess appointment.”

He most assuredly can. That has occurred 10 times in this country’s history.

Even if the Turtle has to pull the vote and we have to wait til after the election, it looks like Heitkamp is a goner.

McCaskill and Nelson trail in the polls while Donnelly, Tester, Manchin and Menendez are in dogfights.

The Republicans are defending in Nevada where they lead and are defending open seats in Tennessee and Arizona where they lead in both elections.

As of now I’d guess the Republicans pick up 3-4 Senate seats conservatively. They could always just hold the vote to confirm Kavanaugh once the new Senators are seated at the end of January.

“I think Flake will vote yes. He’s made his point.”

The scuttlebutt is that Flake will be a NO vote, but that the twins are going to vote YES. Thus, Pence breaks the tie unless Manchin or Heitkamp flip to YES, in which case Pence does not have to do anything.

If Mitch clearly has 50+1 lined up Schumer will green light Manchin and Heitkamp to vote yea in a last ditch attempt to save their seats.

“Jeff Flake: I Will Vote to Confirm Brett Kavanaugh[etc.] ...”

in fact i have seen all of that and more ... for example from yesterday:

“In Manchester, New Hampshire, Flake was asked what would cause him to vote “no” on nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He pointed to “any evidence that corroborates” Kavanaugh’s accuser’s story of sexual assault.”

but all of this simply shows Flake flip-flopping like a Mexican jumping bean thrown on a hot griddle ... so really, it’s nearly impossible to predict what he’s going to do without digging deep into the tea leaves, and even there things are murky ... my gut is he’ll vote yes ... on the other hand, voting no will get briefly get him intense publicity, which he clearly relishes ... except it will be the king of publicity that will kill any Presidential aspirations ... though it’s hard to tell just how deluded Flake is about that or anything else ... my real take is that Flake has been mentally and spiritually crushed by the pressures of his Senate job ... that the man never had a strong enough sense of self-worth to withstand the rigors of a job like U.S. Senator, and the job crushed his sense of self-worth like a bug being rolled over by a fourteen wheeler barrelling 75mph down a six-lane concrete Interstate highway ...
