Casey always coasts, his MO is to not campaign because he has ZERO people or campaign skills... But the GOP just keep running non starters against him.

Honestly, what little I have seen of Barletta isn’t bad, but you don’t see much of him.

THe GOP doesn’t want to win, and isn’t fighting to... its clearly evident, as such incumbents will skate.

The Kavanaugh fiasco might help a congressional race or two in PA, but in general... this will be a status quo election, where the affects of the supreme court forced redistricting are felt more than anything else.

Barletta is a great candidate. Because of your post, I'm going to send him a small check.

Trump held a rally for him on Aug. 3 in Wilkes-Barre. I don't think Trump would do that if Barletta had no chance.

No, it hasn’t gutted morale...

the GOP isn’t fighting at all here.. .at least not in this part of the state, can’t say how things are over by philly...

But they aren’t fighting for it... we are just over a month from the election and I don’t even know if I have seen an ad for Scott Walker once.... and Sighting a Barletta ad is rarer than an Elvis sighting.

I have been saying it since PA-18, the GOP messaging is CRAP... Its a DUD.. you are not going to motivate and pull in the folks who helped give Trump these states by running the same old messaging you ran for 20 years. But at least during PA-18 the republicans were fighting, even with a bad message.. there is ZERO evidence the GOP is fighting at all in the state wide races here....

They pretty much conceded long ago.... Status quo election.... Big outcome will likely be a few Congressional Seats flip Dem as fallout from the forced redistricting is felt.

Kavanaugh crap will probably improve the GOP numbers, but they are so far behind even that won’t make this a race... I believe Casey is up 17 or something like that.

Same is true over in OH... MI and WI... OH GOP Senator is down 15, MI down 18, WI Down 11! The GOP Messaging is EXCREMENT! Even with a solid Bounce out of the Kavanaugh fiasco, about the only D senator that might lose to the GOP up here will be MN! Believe it or not! Probably the MOST liberal of all the upper midwest states!

The GOP is abjectly electorally incompetent! Their messaging is a joke, they have ZERO clue what it takes to win outside the south and mountain states... You aren’t going to WIN in this part of the country by just saying ‘Democrats are bad’... Trump showed you how to win here and you just effing ignore it and do the same old losing crap you have done for 20+ years.

About the ONLY bright spot is that Manchin, in WV may be out... Of the red state democrats in the Senate he’s probably the MOST likely to survive, but I don’t think even he will survive what’s coming.

But, for the rest of the upper midwest, the GOP has engaged in complete electoral incompetence and malpractice... There is an outside chance they could turn it around, IF THEY WAKE UP AND FIX THEIR MESSAGING.. but it seems highly unlikely...

Its a sad sad statement that the most likely, and only Senate win that might come out of the upper midwest for the Republicans is likely out of MN!! They just don’t, or refuse to get it....

The only reason the GOP isn’t losing the house now, is thanks to Kavanaugh fiasco... and there is no excuse for it.

There is still time, the GOP could wake up and start messaging properly, and truly fight and maybe turn something around up here... but that window is closing very very fast.

Kavanaugh may end up a net 6-8 point swing in most places, but across this part of the country, even that would only make MN Senate Race competitive. The GOP seems determined to lose... They just don’t grasp that you aren’t going to get a lot of ex lifetime Democrats to support you by calling the Democrat names... Give them a reason to vote for you, show them you “get” them and will fight for them... otherwise you offer NOTHING... and that’s been the GOP midterm message in the upper midwest... a whole lot of nothing.

Hollywood CATHOLIC Canuck Trebek.

He may or may not be practicing, but he is a graduate of St. Jerome’s High School in Kitchner-Waterloo. I have a colleague who went to the same school.

I at least don’t mind the jibe coming from a fellow Catholic.

Val DiGorgio is the PA GOP Chairman.

I don’t see any ads in central PA, but Barletta is running an active email campaign.

I hear Wagner is going around the state meeting groups of people.

I just hope the Trump enthusiasm carries the day.

For the record, Lou Barletta is a good candidate but he is having the legs cut out from under him by the GOPe, including the Koch Brothers "Americans for Prosperity" PAC which is also anti-Trump. As this article indicates, Barletta's biggest drawback is that he lacks the resources to get his name out beyond Northeastern PA where he is well known.

Big-dollar donor network passes on Lou Barletta’s Senate bid

He’s down 17 or 18 points against the least photogenic senator you could find, who has ZERO personality and presence....

You can send him cash, but just recognize, short of a TECTONIC shift in the PA political world, He’s losing and losing big.

Even the Kavanaugh bounce, likely won’ t get this race inside of 10 points... and the same is true of the Senate races across the upper midwest...

Only MN is inside of 10 points...

I have been saying this all year, the GOP has ZERO idea how to campaign here... there messaging is crap... DO NOT expect anything big out of the upper midwest for the GOP this fall...

They literally engage in electoral malpractice here... Completely incompetent.

I guess he’s like most Democrats, being fed lines he should read whether he understands them or not.

He is a Republican last I heard, fairly conservative.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you are looking at PA to perform (or the rest of the upper midwest) to perform for the GOP this fall, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

I’ve been saying this all year, the GOP messaging is TERRIBLE to win, at least in this part of the country.

There is only 1 senate race inside of 10 points in the upper midwest, and that one is in MN! The most liberal of all these states. Every other race the GOP are down 11 - 18 points.. even with a solid Kavanaugh bounce, not likely any of them are going to win.

Before the Kavanaugh circus, I fully expected 10 or more congressional seats to go Blue in this part of the country alone... Kavanaugh likely stopped that from happening and saved the house for the republicans, but it isn’t going to stop a general win by the Dems in the statewide races up here....

Sad, but true..

Fortunately the GOP will pick up Senate seats in a lot of other places, but don’t expect much, unfortunately from this part of the country.

From what you see of him, he seems fine, but you don’t see much of him...

Casey and Wolf will easily be re-elected....sadly

“Trebek, dressed in a purple flowered tie with a matching pocket square, looked out at the crowd watching the two candidates face off at an upscale hotel in Hershey, Pa.”

A little off topic here, but really - who would write something like this??? So he wore a purple flowered tie with a matching pocket square, and NOTHING ELSE??? And the second part of the sentence seems not to relate to the rest of it at all.

I live in the Delaware Valley, it’s just as bad here as it is in Western PA. The GOP isn’t even showing up.

They are incompetent but it’s not just PA...

There isn’t a competitive senate race in this part of the country.. down 11-18 everywhere up here excep MN where it’s 5 or 6 points.

It’s messaging! Been saying it all year!

You don’t win in places where you need life long Democrats to vote for you by calling democrats names. You can’t win here by pretending it’s the Deep South or mountain states.

You can’t run a campaign in OH or PA or Mi or WI etc like you would rub one in NC or GA or TX.

Republican are offering nothing to people outside the traditional base to care or show up for them this fall. Trump showed you how to win and you just keep running elections like you did before Trump... and guess what? You lose.

Incompetent. Across the entire upper Midwest...
