McConnell vows Kavanaugh vote ‘here on this floor, this week’ ( "doubled down Tuesday")
Washington Post ^ | October 2, 2018

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) doubled down Tuesday on his vow to hold a vote by the end of the week on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, saying he was the victim of open “floodgates of mud and muck.”

“One thing we know for sure: The Senate will vote on Judge Kavanaugh here on this floor, this week,” McConnell said during a floor speech in which he also dismissed some recent media reports about Kavanaugh’s decades-old behavior.

His comments come as Democrats are pressing for a more expansive FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh. On Monday, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee called for FBI interviews of about two dozen people who might have information relevant to three Kavanaugh accusers.

McConnell characterized that as a part of an ongoing effort by Democrats to “move the goal posts” on Kavanaugh’s confirmation and predicted they would be unsatisfied when the FBI completes its work this week.

Democrats, McConnell said, “will not be satisfied unless they have brought down Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination.”

I don’t know why McConnell get so much hate. Sure he is the very definition of a swamp creature, but he has run the Senate with an iron fist,...

He gets it because he can, when he wants to, run the Senate with an iron fist. But he only seems to deploy that for Court fights (at which he is very good, btw). But where was he on, for example, the Corker Capitulation on Iran?

McConnell had better get more iron in his fist and beat Collins, Murkowsi, and Flake into submission. It’s time for severe party discipline, whatever it takes!

BTW, if he is not confirmed, Judge K can be renominated immediately after the election (assuming we gain 4-5 more seats) and WILL be confirmed.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

First time I heard this idea was last night from Lindsey Grahambo. Everyone in our house was cheering.

McConnell’s PAC backed Murkowski when she ran as an independent in 2010, over the Republican nominee who was backed by the Tea Party. How stupid does that look to him now? But he has to be pointedly reminding her of that. I believe he’ll be very angry if she sinks Kavanaugh, and she has to know that. Mitch must be close with a lot of her backers in Alaska, since they’re all GOPe. There has to be consequences for her if she votes against Kavanaugh.

I think a lot of GOPer, even the swampiest, have been having some eye-opening moments with recent Dem/leftist behavior. They thought it was all about schmoozing and going along to get along...and then suddenly they realized it wasn’t and that the Dems were literally out for blood.

“There has to be consequences for her if she votes against Kavanaugh.”

Kavanaugh was the establishment choice as well. You have to think she and Collins signed off on the nomination.

I think the WV Senator will vote yes as well. I think he loses if he votes no.

I thought Senate rules required 3 days notice to schedule a vote. Wouldn’t that mean today in order to vote on Friday?

If he’s calling for a vote then he knows he’s got at least 50.

He started the procedural clock officially on Friday. When he calls for the vote the Dems will get 30 hours of debate (tantrum) and then they take the roll.

I love this idea! NO QUARTER.

Called my senators (Feinstein and Harris, yikes) just to do my little bit.

Told them both I don’t want government by character assassination. I don’t. I opposed Ruth Ginsberg but would not go along with accusations that she drowned kittens in her youth. This is insane.

I guess what capitulation? Without Corker’s deal Congress wouldn’t have had the tiny leverage they had. He opposed the deal throughout, but only the White House gets to decide if it’s a treaty or not. I guess you could argue Corker’s “deal” gave it a thin veneer of legitimacy, but bill the passed like 98-2.

I am unsure what that has to do with McConnell who opposed the deal throughout.

For a brief time I thought flake was...well...a flake. But with his comments today I am convinced he is an evil, ego-maniacal narcissist.

Next SCOTUS nomination will NOT be horrible horrible horrible if we have 60 Rs in the Senate.

Let’s work towards that.

Kavanaugh had a big thing in his favor -- something the Democrat/Left is terrified of like Dracula to garlic --
Truth ... the demonstrated fact that he is innocent!

Here’s another idea for the Repubs when Trump has to make another nomination ..... go full nuclear and NO HEARINGS.

I don’t believe they are required.

I opposed Ruth Ginsberg but would not go along with accusations that she drowned kittens in her youth. This is insane. I heard she did, but doesn't remember it because she was blackout drunk. No matter. She vociferously opposed the insinuation and I think she lacks the temperament to be a Supreme.

If they're not sure of the confirmation vote, they could delay it until after the election, or rather, delay it until after the new congress is sworn in.

Flake may not care. But Murkowski and Collins do.

Time to make Flake an offer he can't refuse.

Or is that what the democrats have already done?
