I think the overkill was to raise his bail to the point that he couldn’t meet it.

Sometimes they lock the nuts up in county lock up because there is no mental health beds or rehab slots available and their behavior is escalating to the point where the sheriff realizes that this local problem is going to hurt someone and/or escalate a confrontation to the point that they have to shoot him.

You can’t force someone into rehab and the nuts quickly learn what to say and what not to say to avoid mental health lock up. Crazy isn’t stupid.

The liberals and the ACLU eviscerated the state mental hospitals and this is the result. Community based mental health doesn’t exist, so the chronically mentally ill shuttle in and out of jail. If this guy lives long enough, he will eventually get locked up in a nursing home.

Agreed. However this case got some notoriety not normally given to your average case because of the persuasion of the victims. Court ordered rehab could have been ordered at that point.
