Collins et al may stll claim/vote no, cotinuing the “demeanor” charge the Dims drummed up when the Ford claim began to fall apart.

The GOP could win either way. Kavanaugh gets confirmed or the Dims lose big in November no matter if Kavanaugh gets confirmed or not, and just because of how they treated Kavanaugh.

Flake was coached. The D’s were going to walk out of the committee hearing en mass. For a quorum, you need 9, including 2 minority members.

The walkout would have prevented a vote and perhaps locked it up for good. A nuclear option.

Flake asked for the week. Only Flake could have done this. You should look at Feinstein’s face after the ask. She didn’t expect it.

Because Flake did this, the D’s stayed, voted no, and Flake’s vote got the nominee to the floor.

Turns out that the FBI HAD ALREADY BEEN investigating. Since 12SEP, the day after the letter was leaked by Feinstein to the press.

They knew this was coming, and they were ready. 1000+ NEW pages of FBI investigation came down - only it was about Ford mostly, not Kavanaugh.

Damning stuff too.

And on Saturday, they vote.

I’ll bet the Chinese would make her a general if she defected before the weekend. Feinstein would be happy there.

Thank you for the explanation and reframing of Flake's actions. I still think he's ridiculous (in general) and I'm glad he's not going to be in the next Congress, but that makes the FBI request much more palatable.

I'll have to go back and watch the video of the hearing again to see Feinstein's reaction.
