DOWNERS GROVE, IL - The Illinois Tollway, in partnership with Blick Art Materials and MB Real Estate (MBRE), is inviting high school art students to participate in the 2019 Tollway Map Cover Art Contest for a shot to land on the cover art of the official 2019 Illinois Tollway Map.
Recognizing the Illinois Tollway's commitment to diversity, the theme for the 2019 contest calls on student artists to submit artwork that illustrates the importance of diversity and inclusion. Areas of focus for the 2019 Tollway Map Cover Art Contest may include, but are not limited to, the following themes:
The Illinois Tollway's Board of Directors has invested heavily on diversity programs, issues and policies aimed at diversifying the Illinois Tollway's engineering, design, construction and support services. The Tollway's ultimate goal is to create access to sustainable jobs and foster increased opportunities for firms of all sizes and types.
"Diversity and inclusion can help increase access to more qualified worker and businesses, which in turn fosters creativity and innovation and a competitive economy," said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Elizabeth Gorman. "The Tollway remains focused on promoting, assisting and ensuring diverse participation in our Move Illinois Program and all aspects of our operations, including contracting, consulting and the supply of goods and services."
More than 300 high schools in the 12 counties served by the Illinois Tollway have been sent information about this year's contest. Art contest entries will be accepted beginning September 14, 2018, and must be postmarked no later than October 12, 2018.

I can’t even fathom why
-Some idiot thought of a toll road art contest
-Some higher level idiot approved it
-Some low level skulls full of mush will waste their precious few brain cells to create toll art.
And who cares about diversity. I care that the EZ pass works, the bathrooms are clean, the sinks work and the roads are smooth. That’s all. I don’t care what color the employees are.
I’d like to do a chart showing the diversity of pothole types found throughout the state.
The city of Chicago conducted a similar contest in which Chicago Public Schools students were to create artwork for a city auto sticker. The winner turned out to be the son of a known (and notorious) Latin gang member. The kid’s crappy artwork incorporated a number of gang symbols and, if I remember corrctly, the kid flashed gang signs during his foto op with local politicos.
Send in a painting of black youths, teens, whatever, breaking into a white owned home. Tell them it represents actual interaction between the races, it shows the two races together and it is a realistic view of our society. They could substitute a car jacking for the home invasion or any other event along those lines. But it will sure show diversity in action.
They will spend tollway income wherever/whenever necessary, so that the Illinois Tollway will not be paid off until sometime after the end of the Universe.
When I had to fly in/out of O’Hare all the time my favorite sight was seeing the last toll plaza in my rear-view mirror as I headed home.
Diversity kills quicker than Smoking
They used to do this for the city stickers for parking in Chicago... until one “diverse” student decided to put gang hand signals on the winning entry. No art anymore!
Took I-90 instead of I-39. From just north of Chicago to the Indiana border paid over $80 in tolls (driving motorhome, tag axle, with car in tow, 5 axles total).
Stop and go traffic (and it was Sunday) from 30 miles N of Chicago to 15 miles S of Chicago.
Also, the road was in terrible condition! Ruts, pot holes, breaking up concrete, asphalt.
The toll stations also were barely wide enough to get through. Only had a few inches on each side clearance of mirrors, almost hit the pole just before booth.
How about of Mayor Daley’s Democrat Police Department cracking the skulls of a diverse assortment of radical leaders staging riots in the streets?
