THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

TWENTY MILLION SWEETHEARTS: ”I’LL STRING ALONG WITH YOU“

This is early Doris from 1950. Buddy had died in a plane crash by the time this item was released.

Doris Day & Buddy Clark: “I’ll String Along With You”

This is why the duet with Buddy was released. Doris’ second film, “My Dream is Yours” from 1949, featured the song prominently to showcase her voice. This is a clip from the film. She was teamed with Jack Carson and Eve Arden, who was on leave from her hit radio show, “Our Miss Brooks.”

This is Frank from the Fifties in the Capitol years. It’s laid back and a lot of fun.

Sassy’s best work was done in jazz clubs, and Mercury Records captured her in 1958 at the London House in Chicago backed by some of the best sidemen in the game.

TWENTY MILLION SWEETHEARTS: “I'LL STRING ALONG WITH YOU”

The late Fifties revealed a split in radio listening habits. Rock and roll was becoming more mainstream being the music of the kids, but adults were still listening to single artists and groups with tight harmonies. This is from 1958.

Cliff had a huge multi-decade career in the UK but only a few hits in the US. This was a huge British hit for him in 1960.

Oh yes, we did! We found a new place right in our own town, with pine forests, wetlands (little boardwalks through there), horse pastures (rich folks), and nice places to sit.

About 2 miles if one goes on all the trails in the 200 acres.

I was going to take the bike tonight to go hear my sis’s duo play at a local pub, but it seemed a bit chilly so I took the car.

In the six mile drive to the pub, the outside temp dropped 13 degrees. The heat is coming on TONIGHT!
