What? The magic words did not work?

Per the video it looks like he went down after first couple of shots. Maybe a bad idea to pump 16 rounds into the corpse? Aren’t we all taught in CCW class that the object is to stop the threat and not necessarily to kill?

Had it not been for the last couple shots, when the now deceased was laying on the ground almost motionless for several seconds, the cop would not have been convicted of murder. What started out as a questionable shoot became an execution.

I blame training here... I don’t believe the first couple shots were uncalled for - he is showing a deadly weapon, waving it around, and is keeping a hand in his pocket. Once the second hand becomes visible, the officer relies upon training and continues shooting until ammunition is expended.

Training does not excuse, it is just a reason behind, and fully agree with a murder charge against the officer. The 16 guilty verdicts on each bullet being shot is incredibly excessive. The suspect was clearly threatening anyone who came close to him with a deadly weapon. My issue is once the second hand is clear, the officer should have ceased firing.

Good. He was guilty. He should get the death penalty

Police union leader blasts Van Dyke verdict, says it resulted from 'sham trial'

Some quotes from the FOP guy.

“This is a day I never thought I’d see in America, where 12 ordinary citizens were duped into saving the asses of self-serving politicians at the expense of a dedicated public servant,” Chris Southwood, the state organization's president, said in a statement.

[...]

“This sham trial and shameful verdict is a message to every law enforcement officer in America that it’s not the perpetrator in front of you that you need to worry about, it’s the political operatives stabbing you in the back," the FOP said. "What cop would still want to be proactive fighting crime after this disgusting charade, and are law abiding citizens ready to pay the price?”

Chris Southwood is president of the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police.

Then there is the story i just came across, , Duquesne University football player dies after jumping from 16th floor of residence hall . Duquesne University President Ken Gormley said in a statement Friday that Mr. Brown jumped out a window of Brottier Hall on the Forbes Avenue side after campus police arrived in response to a “reported disturbance.” Mr. Brown is listed on the Duquesne Dukes roster as a running back who graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md.
