Murkowski to vote "present" as a courtesy to Montana senator
Axios ^ | Oct 5, 2018 | Marisa Fernandez

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will vote "present" as a courtesy to Montana Sen. Steve Daines as he plans to walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding, which collides with the timing of the Senate floor vote for Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

The big picture: Her vote will not change the outcome of Kavanaugh's confirmation as Sen. Daines was expected to vote in favor of Trump's pick. Though Murkowski announced earlier that she opposes Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, she says she hopes her "present" vote "reminds us we can take very small steps to be gracious."

She claimed that she couldn’t vote for Kavanaugh because of his “temperament”..........his emotional and warranted defense of being accused of being a coordinator of, and a participant in, gang-rape. That doesn’t surprise me coming from the coldest, most emotionless woman I have ever met.

Since Manchin said he’d vote yes Daines isn’t needed and even if Murkowski voted no it still wouldn’t matter for that reason.

This whole “courtesy” thing is a sham. Just a way for her to be totally on the fence.

If she voted no with Daines out it’s still 50-49. Unless my math is wrong at this late hour (a distinct possibility granted).

Pretty sure though it’s just smoke blown up Alaska’s collective voting public’s you know what. So she doesn’t have to take a stand one way or the other. A real leader there.

The -itch is trying to have it both ways. Because she has no character, she would vote no on Kavanagh, but she thinks she won’t get the backlash if she votes present instead and is using Danes “issue” to try to make it seem like she is helping another senator. She is as corrupt as they come and as far as I am concerned, is not to be trusted ever.

About the first decent thing Murkowski has done in many years. She knows if she were to vote no, there’d be a another vote when he gets back from his daughter’s wedding.

He did. Even if Murkowski votes no, there will be a re-vote as soon as Daines returns from his daughter’s funeral.

I think it would be very cool if my dad were not at my wedding because he had to fly back to DC to save the Supreme Court. We can dance later, Daddy.

Dianes has said that he’ll have the use
of Gianforte’s private jet to return
to the Senate if his vote is needed,
and McConnell will hold the vote open
until he gets there.

A vote that protects or destroys the rule of law and Murky plays miss manners with it. What a freaking looser!

It’s a courtesy to Senator Daines. He’s a yes and she’s a no. If he can’t be there, her present vote offsets his missing vote. Instead of 51-50 winning, 50-49 would win.

If the reported rumor a number of Red State Dems could switch their votes turns out fo he true, the tally for Kavanaugh would be even higher without Daines and Murkowski.

“She can’t be trusted.”

And Daines is trustworthy? His behavior is appalling.

He would if they needed him - they would leave it open and fly him in. Since Murkowski knows this, she decided to pretend to be courteous/gracious by making it unnecessary...she’s acting like a endangered dem in a Red State because she also knows that a lot of Alaskans might be wondering what they did by writing her in back when....credit Collins’ speech for helping ....

You missed the entire point of my post. You’ve fallen for her “courtesy” act — which is nothing more than a blatant attempt to have it both ways and reduce the backlash of a no vote. Oh well, to each his own.

I don’t buy that she’s being gracious. My likely she thinks voters will forget the truth in 4 years when she says she didn’t vote no.

If Manchin had flip flopped she’d have stuck to her no.
