During his Tuesday show, Rush Limbaugh spoke with a caller who said that Ford’s “whole demeanor and her body language, it was just so rehearsed and coached.”

“You know, we had … I didn’t get to this yet. I had an audio sound bite,” Limbaugh said.

“A Hollywood actress or an actress somewhere that I’ve never heard of did a video impersonation of Dr. Ford, and it was so spot on, and it was exactly… I noticed her speech pattern,” he continued.

IT’S A VOICE TECHNIQUE KNOWN IN THE PROFESSION “Those of us whose profession involve the voice know very well the various vocal techniques that professional vocalizers use, and she used to a great effect what is called uptalking or up-speaking, and that means to end every sentence on an up note.”

Uptalking, Limbaugh said, “promotes the idea that you’re young and innocent and vulnerable, and it’s what you say was the little girl type voice.”

As for the Hollywood actress, she will be punished. She had to apologize for it and tell everybody she supports Dr. Ford.

The actress is Rachel Butera, the voice of Princess Leia in the new Star Wars Resistance series .

It would be interesting to know what Mrs. Blasey Ford sounds like normally. Everything this acts is saying is what many of us also thought.

Bombard, a Body Language expert, said much the same thing. She said the little girl voice allows her to evade some of the scrutiny she would normally be under (17:23 on the tape).

she also did a LOT of “I’m so pretty’ ‘I’m so cute’ poses- like tilting her head to the side, swinging her hair back, tucking her chin down, which body language bombard (mentioned in the article) pointed out in order to divert attention AWAY from the fact that some questions made her nervous-

Uptalking is the modern “Harvard-Yale-”I’m educated” boy talk as well.

Fail to uptalk? Never get hired by NPR, PBS, as a ‘spokesperson” for the NHS, hospitals, or federal government agencies outside of Washington.

Same question here...this weird new term popped up seemingly out of nowhere. I just did a quick search and found a short video with an excellent description by a Speech Language Pathologist. It sounds like a professional term used to describe a learned speech behavior where the speaker restricts the exhaled breath and the vocal cords make a croaky sound.

About a week or so ago, in another FR thread related to Ford's way of talking in that hearing, someone here on FR posted a short clip from a movie, which showed a high school boy and girl sitting next to each other in a classroom (maybe for a detention, or something like that), and the girl was talking non-stop with that funny kind of "uptalk" to that boy.   He kept looking at her strangely, but eventually, they decided to go to the prom together.

I went back later to try to find that FR thread, in order to show someone else that clip, but I couldn't remember the name of that movie referred to there, and I just could not find that thread using any of the other things I used to search on.

Does anybody here remember that FR thread, and the name of the movie it referenced?

One of the worst speech pathology cases was Obama — weird intonations, odd cadences, trailing off sentences, stilted pauses in the wrong places, goofball pronounciations, that strange lisping/whistling sound. How he ever got labeled as a brilliant speaker is beyond me. He is one of the worst.

I don't think uptalking is a sign of lying so much as it is a sign of false modesty.

However, if some older person not normally prone to uptalking starts uptalking, then this is a ruse by its very nature.
