Kavanaugh vote: What time, what channel, how to watch Saturday’s confirmation vote

What’s going on now: Senators – mostly Democrats, who have said they plan to use the 30 hours of debate granted by the cloture motion – have been delivering speeches to a nearly empty chamber since midday Friday. The speeches will likely continue through Saturday, up until the call for the vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination.

What time: The vote will come at the end of the 30-hour period that began on Friday at 10:52 a.m. EDT. The vote is expected to be taken sometime between 4:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. EDT.

What channel: Cable news networks and network channels will be broadcasting the Senate vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination. You can also watch the vote on C-SPAN 2.

Livestream: You can watch the Senate livestream by clicking here.

What has to happen for Kavanaugh to be confirmed: If no senator changes his or her cloture vote, then Kavanaugh will be confirmed by a vote of 51-49.

Sen. Steve Daines, R-Montana, will be attending his daughter’s wedding on Saturday in Montana, so, unless his vote is needed for the nomination to pass, he may not return to Washington to vote.

If no senator changes his or her cloture vote and Daines does not return to vote, the vote would likely be 50-49.

For the rest of her life, memories of her wedding day would be tarnished.

Please. Military people who serve their country miss events like this all the time. I missed the birth of 2nd and adoption of my 5th. I missed the first nine months of kid #3 &4.

The list is endless.

Certainly a senator can give that level of service to his country, right?

Mazie Hirono is so upset.

You can just see the tears flowing. And we have to put up with this maudlin drama for two more hours.

Yes, that can’t be the case if we have one present vote and one no show.

Hope life DOES NOT imitate art; “Seven Days in May,” character Paul Girard https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058576/. The cigarette case scene is priceless!

I thought it would be neat if the Blue Angels did a fly over of the wedding.

They are in San Francisco this weekend (Fleet Week).

Can we make this the live thread for the vote, if there isn’t another one already?

Does anybody know when the actual swearing in ceremony will occur? Today? Next week? (personally, I’d do it today, but there might be some sort of precedent)

Thanks in advance.

Probably Sunday or Monday. Kavanaugh would join the Supreme Court Monday morning.

Any cases heard would be rescheduled. He can participate right away in its work this term.

Actually, what Murkowski stated was that she would initially vote no, then afterwards, submit for a change to record her vote as “present.”

I am not at all comfortable with just her word on this.

Monday is a holiday (Columbus Day). There are arguments scheduled before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, so he should be in place before that day.
