Horrifying thought- if Joe Manchin had "changed" his vote from Aye to No, could that have torpedoed the nomination?

Just think about it- after Daines goes to Montana, Manchin "has a crisis of conscience" and suddenly is "woke" to the plight of abused women everywhere.....then decided to vote NO.

Murkowski then decides to Vote NO as well. Could've made it 49-50.

As I understand it, they could have flown Daines back and held the vote open, then Pence would break the tie if it were 50-50. But I wasn’t aware Rubio didn’t vote. Weird.

Agree, that was one gutsy call by President Trump. You never know what might go wrong at the last possible minute.

Yes, Manchin might have tried to screw us in that way, but he would have been kissing goodbye his electoral prospects. ALso, there is a period before the voting closes, so possibly McConnell could have prevailed upon Murkowski to change to a yes vote just to counteract such treachery. I don’t know if she would have done it, but the appeal would have been strong to avoid letting her “friend” Daines take the fall for a losing vote.

Anyway, I was nervous about any possible last-minute betrayals (especially from a Republican such as Flakey), but it looks like we are now in the clear.... at least until the next confirmation process.

Exactly! Who knows what could have happened. The Senators first responsibility is to the Constitution, not personal issues.

This time if Manchin actually pulls off a win in West Virginia he will change over to the Republican party within 90 days of the election.
Nobody wants to be on the losing side Especially when they already agree with the winning side 9 times out of 10.

Then the vote would be held open until Daines could come in.

Didn't happen did it?

The President has done thousands of these kinds of deals and was well informed.

I posted at the beginning of this that Daines attending his daughter wedding was a good sign, that Mitch already knew the outcome would be favorable.
