Small rattlesnake. Where’s it’s mama and siblings?
This is Texas. There are rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, etc. My kitties bring in copperheads all the time. In as in in the house and drop them at my feet. Look, ma, we loooove you and brought you a present. Found one of their presents in the guestroom not long ago.

Yes, the baby rattlers are out. They are hard to detect and carry potent venom for their size.

This is Texas. There are rattlesnakes, copperheads, water moccasins, etc. This past spring I found in my backyard a copperhead, about a foot long, locked in mortal combat with a king snake about the same size. I pulled up a lawn chair and watched. The king snake won, of course. Fascinating stuff.
