Permit me to shorten and simplify his remarks so Deplorables of the 21st century can better feel the power of Washington's words:
Often made up of a small but artful and enterprizing minority of the Community, Parties force public Administration to Mirror the unsuitable and contrived policies of the factions, rather than the consistent and wholesome plans worked out by common councils and the mutual interests of the People.
However successful Associations and Parties may be in the short run to address the interests of factions, in the long run they become potent engines for cunning, ambitious and unprincipled men whose aim us to subvert the Power of the People and usurp for themselves the reins of Government.
In the end, they ultimately aim destroy the very engines which artificially lifted them to unjust dominion!"
I hope my edits have sharpened Washington's words for modern ears to hear and that I have faithfully following his intent.
I also take heart that Trump is essentially "above Party" and has the just welfare of ALL Americans in mind, not just those of the Party in power.
The beauty and wonder of the wisdom of America's Founders is in their ability to perceive "tyranny" in the words and actions of others, as is illustrated by the words of Edmund Burke (as used in another of my posts yesterday):
"In other countries, the people, more simple, and of a less mercurial cast, judge of an ill principle in government only by an actual grievance; here they anticipate the evil, and judge of the pressure of the grievance by the badness of the principle. They augur misgovernment at a distance, and snuff the approach of tyranny in every tainted breeze." - Edmund Burke, Speech on Conciliation
