Scott Adams asked Peterson about this and Peterson responded that it was a thought experiment, not something that was cast in stone. Adams accepted that clarification. Peterson often has thought experiments as he is trying to hash something out...it is what thinking people do. It doesn’t mean that he agrees with the thought, although I am surprised that he tweeted it out to wienstein...
I accept Peterson’s explanation. I do not know what Petersons thoughts are on the topic today.
“I do not know what Petersons thoughts are on the topic today.”
And how can you tell it’s what he really thinks and not an experiment?
Apparently in his experiment he had his spine removed and replaced with a wet noodle.
Coward.
And no, thinking people do not immediately recommend retreat as a "thought (less) experiment".
I can live with that. If he’s just stirring the pot to see what others are thinking. As I responded to another comment, when he’s dealing w/ the Left, he’s no joke in rendering them speechless and bringing out the temper tantrums.
I think the practice of tweeting out an off the cuff opinion is idiocy.
Shows the person is not serious minded and enthralled with their own voice.
I'm not that familiar with Peterson other than watching some clips of him here & there. But up until this moment my impression of him was very favorable and that includes having first heard about this tweet a few days ago, for i was willing to give him a pass since as a Canadian it is understandable he might not have a deep understanding of American politics and how truly venomous the Democrat party is (doing what Peterson suggested would only embolden the Dems to continue smearing every nominee put forward). Plus he might not have been following the Kavanaugh hearings closely and so most of what he heard or read was likely heavily distorted by the liberal Canadian press.
But trying to shrug it off as a thought experiment lowers my opinion of him since it sounds like he's saying "i'm never wrong and i never say anything stupid, but if it ever appears that way then you can rest assured that it was simply a thought experiment." I mean it might be plausible if he had prefaced his statement with a "perhaps" or "maybe". That's what most people do when they are throwing something out there for consideration and are not necessarily signing off on it. But writing "Kavanaugh should step down" is certainly not an invitation for further input or thought on the part of the reader bur rather a definitive declaration brooking not dissent.
One can have thought experiments but it would have been useful to have prefaced it by a phrase such as Let us examine the possibility....
It speaks to someone who is not thinking about actually doing things but is reflecting from an ivory tower.
