I think that is the most likely explanation for the rare gaffe by Jordan Peterson. There are other reasonable explanations, which others have made here.

That said, those completely dismissing him as a result are making a terrible mistake and should take the time to listen to him at length. He is a huge ally in the Culture Wars which we are just beginning to fight, and which must be won. I’ll warn that he is wordy. He is a university professor after all. And ultimately, he’s worth the modest time investment.

Go watch the full Cathy Newman interview. This is what seems to have really brought the larger public to him.

Jordan Peterson debate (with Cathy Newman) on the gender pay gap, campus protests and postmodernism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcjxSThD54

In which he pleasantly, professionally eviscerates a 3rd wave feminist newsy. And she’s so clueless she doesn’t even understand what is happening.

His criticisms of the Postmodernists in our universities are spot on. He sees them as the heirs of the Communists, which they are, and who he hates, having read his Solzhenitsyn. And he has a huge following of Millenials and Gen Z men. This is a good thing.

FReepers should know who JP is, he is an ally. This gaffe does not change that.

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson on how he will stop post-modernists

Do not make the mistake of casting this man aside over 1 Tweet. Do not do so while ignorant of his work. We need him in the Culture Wars fight.

FYI I’m pinging most of the thread, and not necessarily just those dismissing him over this.

When I discovered Peterson over a year ago I watched several days of his videos. Then it hit me there is a conclusion he should come to if he can make the observations he does that he is unable to for whatever reason. Then I realized Peterson really is a great place for people to go who just aren’t really ready for “The Red Pill”. Sort of training wheels before full adulthood. Really. “Clean your room”? Seriously?

After reading the response I got from, abigkahuna, and now you, I’ve given this a bit more thought and I think both of you are right. I don’t know the guy and can’t talk to him to see exactly what it is he meant. However, if his intention is to drag more folks in, whether they’re on OUR side or the enemies, all the better.

As we all know, he can take people down without them grasping that he’s made a fool of them til it’s too late.

> he is an ally. This gaffe does not change that.

I’m afraid it changes a lot more than you credit, here.

Conservatives have a long history of scam artists and traitors who talk the talk and then stab us in the back at the moment of truth.

Peterson not even being an American is outside of his rights to call for the resignation of a US Supreme Court justice. This is called “foreign interference”.

This raises a couple of very serious issues with Peterson. One, he doesn’t respect Americans’ right to make our own decisions in these matters. Two, when it matters the most, Peterson’s thinking has led him to one of the worst possible conclusions on this issue imaginable. So clearly, there is something very very wrong with the way he thinks about the world, if he thought forfeiting the win after it has been earned is not only reasonable, but advisable.

He’s starting to smell a lot like Glenn Beck - earned our trust for the purposes of achieving a high-impact betrayal.

Thank you, FreedomPoster, for your well-reasoned plea to listen and not write Peterson off.

I, too, would like to continue to have his voice. We need him in the fight to stop the tyranny and Stalinists hidden in soy boys/pink hats all around us today.

Okay, but why on earth should Kavanaugh resign after going through hell to get the Supreme Court job that he is eminently qualified for that he has been working towards all his life? That would be the worst decision ever. It would singlehandedly demoralize conservatives, hand a huge victory to the deranged, screaming far left crazies, energize the far left lunatics, give them even more reason to wage even nastier wars of personal destruction on Trump’s next SCOTUS nominee and guarantee we lose the midterms. It’s the single worst decision I can think of.

There isn't any way that Kavanaugh could "have his named cleared" by stepping down from the Supreme Court. It's a moronic idea..

We need him in the Culture Wars fight.

You really don't need someone who councils surrender. But you follow who you like.

I agree with most of what Dr. Peterson has taught, too, but that's beside the point in the context of the topic and situation at hand: our form and administration of government as constructed and taught by our better forefathers.

"We need him in the Culture Wars fight."

Those are not wars, and that's not a fight. That's my point. And I'm advising any relatively wiser academics, for the sake of their own good, acute and delicate sensitivities and health, to stop using such metaphors.

Do comfortable academics really want the many people more in touch with reality to start grinning and drooling at that error? Using terms of violence as metaphors, in effect, blinding oneself and one's colleagues to the consequences of trying to carry out a subversion and deposition of U.S. government, is a very dangerous error.

Spoiled people are not corrected with talk. They're only corrected with severe punishment. I don't know Karen Straughan, but she was right about not opening that door.
