Astronaut Scott Kelly apologizes for praising Winston Churchill. What For?
American Thinker ^ | 10/08/2018 | Rick Moran

Scott Kelly is a NASA astronaut.  That says a lot about him right there.  To be selected as an astronaut, you must be the best of the best – smart, fearless, and psychologically sound.

So why does Kelly sound like an idiot here?

Washington Examiner:

Scott Kelly, a retired American astronaut with multiple space flights under his belt, apologized Sunday after quoting Winston Churchill and calling the 20th century British prime minister "one of the greatest leaders of modern times."

"Did not mean to offend by quoting Churchill.  My apologies.  I will go and educate myself further on his atrocities, racist views which I do not support.  My point was we need to come together as one nation.  We are all Americans.  That should transcend partisan politics," Kelly wrote on Twitter in the evening.

Right the first time, Scotty.  In 1940, Churchill took a battered, beaten nation after the British army was kicked out of France and rallied his people to resist the Nazi onslaught.  Certainly, Hitler helped a lot by making several key blunders.  But as a demonstration of peerless leadership, there are few modern examples to match Churchill.

So calling Churchill "one of the greatest leaders of modern times" is a no-brainer.  It is a statement supported by history and the facts.

Yossi Gestetner tried to give Kelly a spine:

You are disgracing yourself here. Please stop bending to the will of deranged online trolls.— Yossi Gestetner (@YossiGestetner) October 7, 2018

Indian Nationalist were siding with the Japanese and if the Japs advanced into that territory any Indian who weren’t “friendly” with them would get the Nanking Treatment” They probably still would have pillage as Japan was sending all resources back to the homeland to aid in their war effort

Indian Nationalists were siding with whoever would help them end British rule.

How dare they not want to be ruled by administrators from the other side of the world.

The Japanese couldn't have done worse than what the Brits were already doing in Bengal deliberately starving millions.

Speaking of Churchill, President Trump certainly struck a Churchillian tone during his Topeka KS speech:

“We will not bend. We will not break. We will never give in. We will never give up. We will never back down. We will never surrender. And we will always fight on to victory. Because we can, in our hearts bleed red white. And blue. We are one people. One Family. And one Nation under God.”

I remember at the turn of the century, there was a poll asking who people thought was the most influential/important person of the 20th century. Winston Churchill won, by a large margin, I think.

Yup. The echo chamber works.

And the same dolts call John F Kennedy the greatest American president.

I know millions starved and food was given to other people who didn’t ‘reproduce like rabbits’ (apparently Churchill used this rationale to justify their plight).

Still waiting to hear from some History buffs for a better perspective than the liberal history books. If there is any to be found.

Still, I wonder if Kelley has any thoughts of the millions upon millions of innocent lives being lost through abortion; roughly 60 million since 1973. Lots of blood on those hands as well, don’t you think?

He and his wife cast his lot with the lefties, if I recall. He’s the one married to Gifford, correct?

Apparently, the re-education is starting to stick.

After the war when the starving survivors of Japanese prison camps were still recovering, the British decided to rearm surrendered Japanese army troops and Kempeitai to help them police the colonies they had reacquired.

Wasn't the British Empire grand?

Maybe that is one reason they ultimately fell.

If you want to know why India and much of Asia is so anti-Western until very recent times, yes.

Churchill’s political actions were instrumental in the Allied victories in both World Wars. Without his foresight and moral courage there’d be a whole lot more Germans in Europe today whose mother tongue was German.

There’s much more to that story, smickering hound.

And there are also (at least) two sides to consider as well.

New Delhi is not exactly a bastion of saints either.

It was Marshall and the Americans who dragged Churchill kicking and screaming into Normandy in 44'

He had vetoed a cross channel invasion in 43' at Casablanca.

He was quite willing for WWII to go on and on like the Napoleonic Wars for a generation while he waited for the Germans to starve out.

Do you think the Indian people would approve or disapprove that American women have killed upwards of 60 million of their own children since 1973?

Would Astronaut Kelley consider that ‘like Hitler’ too?

What so you think?

Nope. And the Sepoy Mutiny of the 1850's was very nasty business on both sides.

But the Indians finally kicked their arrogant, overbearing, condescending British administrators back to London in 47'.

Not at all!

I know killing the most innocent among us is uncomfortable to come to terms with, but the fact is it’s quite hypocritical to point out the atrocities of others while at the same time ignoring something far worse happening right before your eyes, every day.

You seem bent on badgering the Brits, and that’s fine. But to ignore the bloodbath in your own back yard is myopic and well, just wrong.

By the way, have they cleaned up the Ganges yet?

On the micro level, an Bengali's father seeing his family starve to death because of the actions of the British Churchill's war strategy made little difference from the Japanese. But on the macro level, siding with the British war effort, even though it meant suffering for millions, allowed the Indian people to eventually win their independence though relatively peaceful means.

An Gandhi's peaceful revolution would never have gotten anywhere with the Japanese Military extremist that reigned in Tokyo. Brutal, prolonged conflict with casualties worse than any “Churchillian’ famine with no guarantee of independence.

Anyone who would equate the British Empire, with all it's flaws, with the Imperial Japanese Empire with it's Bushido creed doesn't know history and any rational discussion would fall on deaf ears.

Leftists, who excuse Stalin's and Mao's brutality as a means for even more brutality use the West's horrible events (but necessary given the options at the time) like the Bengali famine as a cudgel to batter Western politicians with the past to get them to affect policy today.

It is so easy to judge people in the past when we in the oh so comfortable present, made so by the actions of these "horrible men"

Please don't count yourself among these people.

Nope, still literally a cesspool.

But same Freepers that can get riled up about how the Soviet Union was bent on world domination get misty eyed about the how the sun never set on the British Empire.

Lets see. Suppressed personal and economic freedom and looted colonies to benefit Moscow/London? Check.

Murdered millions to keep their Empire? Check.

Soviet Union had Gulags. We get the term 'Concentration Camp' from what the Brits did to the Boers in South Africa in the 1900's.

So taking rice from people to feed your people at war on the other side of the world is ok...If you're on the other side of the world.

And it's just a coincidence that the area you are starving and taking transportation away from is also the center of the Indian Nationalist movement.

Anyone who would equate the British Empire, with all it's flaws, with the Imperial Japanese Empire with it's Bushido creed doesn't know history and any rational discussion would fall on deaf ears.

They were both empires that believed they were the master race to rule the world.

They both invaded China, Britain was just more successful and even kept Hong Kong until very recent times.

Both were responsible for murdering millions in the territories they conquered.

When they turn sour like this one I suspect he was suffered anal rape by an alien who snuck into the International Space Station. And he liked it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...
