I knew homosexuals in the Army and I was in during Carter and Reagan. I’ll bet other veterans will tell you the same.

They weren't allowed to flaunt it. They had to stay in the closet or they got booted the hell out. For the sake of dicipline, and rightfully so. A small minority of perverts weren't allowed to sew an undercurrent of negative morale for an entire Army. I damn sure wouln't want to salute an open d___ sucker. That would turn my stomach. Talk about a morale killer.
The message to troops serving today? Either respect homosexuality, or.. get the hell out. Very bad situation. They got the majority of troops worried about offending a single fagget for fear of getting court marshalled instead of keeping their mind on how best to defeat an enemy. That's counter productive.
