Senate Dems to force vote this week to overrule Trump ObamaCare change
The Hill ^ | 10/08/18 | PETER SULLIVAN

Democrats are planning to force a vote in the Senate this week on overturning a Trump administration rule expanding non-ObamaCare insurance plans.

The Democratic resolution, which will likely get a vote on Wednesday, would overturn a rule finalized in August that expanded the availability of short-term health insurance plans.

Democrats decry the plans as “junk” insurance because they does not need to cover pre-existing conditions or follow other ObamaCare rules. Republicans argue the plans provide a cheaper option alongside ObamaCare plans. The resolution, which is supported by all 49 Senate Democrats, is unlikely to pass given that it would need 51 votes, although GOP Sens. Lisa Murkwoski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), who broke with their party on health care last year, have not publicly said how they will vote.

Even a failed vote, however, would allow Democrats to hammer Republicans on the issue of pre-existing conditions, which they have made central to the campaign ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

Democrats point out that the short-term health insurance plans can deny people who have pre-existing conditions.

The rule in question, finalized by the Trump administration in August, lifts restrictions that limited short-term plans to a duration of three months. Under the new rules, short-term plans can last up to a year, which critics say makes them not actually “short-term” at all.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), who is up for reelection this year, is the main sponsor of the resolution.

On Wednesday we are voting to overturn these junks plans. I am eager to see whether Republicans want to support these junk plans and stick w Trump or do they want to support their constituents. I think they stick w Trump.

Since covering pre existing conditions is the hill they want to fight on ,are they going to offer fire insurance after the house has burned down?

I will be quiet now.

I am however not, I repeat not, uninformed.

I have been a FReeper since 2005. I was one of Sarah Palin’s earliest supporters here. I was one of Donald Trump’s earliest supporters here.

However, I am also on the opposite side on this issue, from Jim Thompson.

I value my access to this forum far, far too much to risk losing it over this.

But this issue is potentially catastrophic, for the GOP.

Be very, very careful, people...

Now I have said that, I will climb down and wish you have a good day. :)

Health insurance was just fine in this country until the government got its paws on it.

There’s nothing the government can’t screw up once it gets involved.

Just before mid terms?

That tells me two things.

One is that they are seriously concerned about losing seats in the Senate so they want to do it now while it still stands a chance.

The other is that they are ensuring their own defeat in Nov.

I have some medical receipts from back in the 70’s for some medical treatment and the insurance rates and medical costs were proportionately far lower than they are today.

They have risen far faster than the living wage.

Health ins is costing us MORE of our income than it ever used to.

PLEASE, bring back those days.

Let people have a real choice after all.

I’d love pre-existing insurance. I want insurance for the home burglary I had many years ago when I wasn’t covered. I want retroactive coverage.

It's not retroactive coverage.

Your medical bills for those days are not getting paid by your current insurance.

Democrats trying to take our insurance away! Again! The stuff we can afford and WANT to buy. And substitute the Obama cr*p that doesn’t work, that we can’t afford and that we don’t want. P.S. they don’t want us to keep our Doctors either.

Okay little n00b, you want to play THAT game, do you? LOL

I've been a posting member of FR since 1998 and read this site for almost a year before I signed up.

I was in at ,least the top 3, here, who came out for Trump, when he was on the top of the escalator.

Since early childhood, I have been not only avidly consumed by current events, politics, but also have worked on local, state, and federal campaigns; encouraged my beloved mother.

You proved how little you know about the workings of the Senate, by posting what you did. And you just won't let it go. Pity that....

Please look up, in a reliable source, HOW the Senate is run AND just WHO can and c an NOT bring a topic up for debate and/or a vote.

True story. I was born in a small town in the Rocky Mountains. Still, it was the largest town for miles around and my Dad was licensed as a veterinarian to practice in three states.

There was a single MD and a handful of nurses to cover the hospital. My Dad and the MD had a gentleman's agreement to handle each other's patients for the rare time they would take vacation or be out of town.

Anyone who needed care (including the animals) got it whether they could afford it or not or had insurance or not. What they couldn't pay in cash, they made arrangments to make payments for the balance. Some of the payment might include produce, mechanical services or whatever it was either doctor could use. My Mom and the MD's wife kept their respective books.

This was the late 1950s . . . not that long ago.

The price for those with pre existing conditions would ostensibly be less.

And if we covered the fire on the house that burned uninsured years ago, the price of insurance for that homeowner would be less, as well.

The question is should we be forced to do this?

And is there no penalty for deliberately going uninsured when you are healthy?

I am currently uninsured. If I get cancer this year God Forbid I’ll pay the price. I am aware I’m taking a risk. It would not be fair to me to make everyone else pay for it.

Im not sharing the savings of unpaid premiums with the American taxpayer. Why should they have to bail me out?.

“Pre-existing conditions” = democrat national socialist party “code-word” for “AIDS-HIV-STD’s-drug addictions” .

Well I think you got me on membership date. Hands down...

But I was for Trump WAY before the escalator ride.

So I think that comparison is 50/50

I was for Trump before he announced PUBLICLY, as well, but I have you "beat" on when I posted my enthusiastic post here as well.

Just WHY you have turned this into a stupid "pi**ing game", I don't know, but it's all on YOU that you posted about something that proves that you didn't understand HOW the Senate works and I called you on it. Case closed.

Sounds like it was a good place to grow up; I have a vet now that I would certainly prefer to have as my personal doctor, he keeps telling me it’s illegal for him to treat humans.
Best damn doctor I have ever dealt with since I was 17 years old.
I’m 68 now.
