Facebook keeps photos of you that other people have posted even if you don’t have an account and they track where ‘you’ have been even if you have never bought anything there by IDing landmarks in those photos

that is different than going to Amazon.com.com and opening account Iand browsing or making a purchase or going to Kroger and using a discount card

I read a book a few years back that was very prescient in this regard. It was a barely-okay story, but the plot was exactly what is going on today.

The book was "Terms of Use" by Scott Allan Morrison. He's a lefty, so the bad guy was a rich Republican working with China (hmmm...) to use a huge internet Facebook-type company called "Circles" to do basically what Facebook, Google, Twitter, and all the others are now doing for the left.

The story talked about using virtual fake friend accounts ("bots") to influence a presidential election.
