Nikki Haley Resigned as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

President Trump‘s ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki R. Haley, has resigned, leaving the White House with one less moderate Republican voice on his cabinet’s foreign policy team.

Ms. Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, had been an early and frequent critic of Mr. Trump, so when he named her the envoy to the world body weeks after his election in November 2016, the appointment was seen as an olive branch.

The daughter of immigrants from India, Ms. Haley favored free markets and global trade and earned international attention for speaking out against the Confederate battle flag in the aftermath of the 2015 massacre at a black church in Charleston.

Haley is not a Cabinet member.

I misposted. She is one of the stars in Trump’s administration. Thanks for the correction.

She was terrific. She disagreed with Trump on several things but never let it out in public. Exactly as someone who works in an administration should do.

My guess is she’s preparing a senate run for when Lindsey Granite is appointed AG to replace Sessions.

I thought she effectively articulated Prez Trump’s vision of MAGA and how it would impact the UN. It couldn’t have been easy. The fact is our professional diplomats are not at all used to staking out the positions she had to stake out....nor are the folks she had to deal with. Clearly in these situations, this raises very high tensions.....even if they are below the surface.

I would say she set the stage nicely for the next person. Change ain’t easy.

It seems odd to me, but Pres. Trump’s White House lists Haley as a Cabinet member:

Unfortunately the media will follow the Line Of March assigned to them by the left, and paint this news as part of “womens” issues, following up on the themes they sold in opposing Kavanaugh.

She wouldn’t run til 2024.

Leaving politics isn’t easy but she put so much into serving her country that she felt it was the right time to leave.

We wish Haley all the best. Life goes on.

"...she articulated the Trump policy very well. I don’t know who will step into the role next, but I liked the way she handled it.

Coulden't agree more...we are losing both grace and logic...a rarity at the UN.

I often hear it described by journalists as “Cabinet-level.”

Any president is free to name almost anyone in his Administration to his Cabinet.

"Is there a problem with folks that can see beyond their county line and promote American international trade?"

There is no problem with promoting international trade for America as long as said trade is reciprocal and fair.

The position was first elevated to cabinet level by Eisenhower.

It was maintained as a cabinet level through President Reagan. It was dropped by GHW Bush, reinstated by clinton, dropped by GW Bush, reinstated by obama and President Trump has kept the position as cabinet level.

“She wouldn’t run til 2024.”

If she is off the national stage until 2024 she will be forgotten.

I can see her leaving the spotlight for health reasons. Otherwise, something else is at play.

After what she did in South Carolina, I would never trust that woman.

Hmmm! I guess a president can make up his own rules as to Cabinet membership.

One other possibility is that Trump is just trying to get a replacement confirmed this year before he loses the Senate. Even if he loses one vote in the Senate it will make it harder to get the person he wants in the job. If Haley steps down at the “end of the year” That would take about 2 months to get a new person confirmed. That is very hard to do in the time frame.
