Nikki Haley was facing a formal complaint over ethics after series of private jet flights funded by businessmen from her native South Carolina
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed the complaint Monday
It referenced seven flights on luxury aircraft that the UN ambassador disclosed on her 2017 form
All were provided by South Carolina businessmen, for flights taken by Haley and her husband
Haley said they were due to existing friendships, but ethics rules prohibit gifts due to an official position
Haley stunned Washington she she revealed Tuesday she will resign her post
A series of Trump officials have fended off flight scandals, and former Health and Human Services secretary Tom Price resigned after flights were revealed Haley said there were 'no personal reasons' for her departure but that public officials should be term-limited
The complaint noted she accepted flights from three separate businessmen from her home state of South Carolina on luxury aircraft between the state and Washington, D.C. She was accompanied by her husband on the flights.
Haley claimed exceptions due to personal relationships with the jet owners.
/Federal ethics regulations prohibit employees from soliciting or accepting gifts given because of the employee’s official position. They also direct employees to consider declining otherwise permissible gifts if they believe a reasonable person would question their integrity or impartiality as a result of accepting the gifts,' according to the letter from CREW seeking an Office of Inspector General probe.
'Ambassador Haley asserted that each flight qualified for an exception to the rules for gifts based on personal relationships with the donors,' according to the letter. 'It is not clear, however, that the personal relationship exception applied to these gifts.'

I find that a very refreshing change from the politics of the last 40 years where every screw up was a poltical hill to die on for which ever party the screw up was part of.

First blush scan — looks like a very minor scandal.
I had figured it was this issue that forced her hand to step aside. No driven politician (which she is) decides to take a sabbatical when their career us in full swing.
Her and Trump were wise politically to get ahead of this and put a happy face on it.
She admitted she did it, just said she was permitted per rules (which she may have been).

The press may try to get some milage out of this because she is a republican, mostly because they’ll try to associate the scandal to Trump (count how many time’s Trump’s name is dropped whenever they talk about this) but I agree, this wont hurt her in the long run for two reasons. First, she is female and likable, which makes it harder for the media to really savage her, so they’ll act slightly more like they’re doing real reporting than they would otherwise. Secondly, it makes her even more recognizable. He gets to be in the press even more than she would if she were ambassador and builds up her long term name recognition.

It was a big mistake to pick her in the first place. Aside from her many deficiencies, she absolutely TRASHED Trump after the SOTU.
It was and is widely known haley is RINO swamp material.

I’m confused. The same people who want her brought up on ethics charges are the same people who want her to run against Trump in 2020.
