legalizing use, although the liberty-respecting thing to do, will do nothing to reduce the value of black markets. Only legalizing sale (and keeping sales taxes non-extreme) will have that effect, as consumers turn away from the criminal market to the legal market.I looked at the legal weed prices. $80 for a quarter ounce.
I'll bet that wherever it is that this price is being charged, some consumers are paying it - which represents money out of the cartels' pockets. Of course, as I noted, that effect would be even greater with lower sales taxes.

Also note that in Ohio, which you were apparently referring to, marijuana is legal only with a state medical marijuana card - which is much more restrictive than what anybody means by "legalization."
