Teresa May, the Conservative prime minister, is no Margaret Thatcher. I bet many Democrats support this here. Once companies disclose "pay gaps" they will be pressured to fix them. Of course, in a free market, companies that discriminate on the basis of race in hiring and pay will be out-competed by companies that don't. So racial pay gaps reflect gaps in skills and productivity, but you are not supposed to say that.

A number cannot tell you why that person is earning what they earn.

To take a number solely on its own to claim it to be an unfair bias is absurd.

Add in, who works overtime, add in years of experience in the specific field, add in gaps of unemployment, add in what their starting salary was that they agreed to and accepted, add in the promotion increases they agreed to and accepted, add in their personal performance of the job and how that impacts raises and promotions, add in what kind of job it is they have, add in what the industry average for that type of job is,

and then add in salary and you have the proper context to see how men and womens salaries compare.
