After my law enforcement stint, I was also the victim of a burglary, two in fact. Yes, the police tend to be the report takers for statistical purposes. Despite all of the remaining evidence and potential witnesses (happened mid-day while I was at work) there was virtually no investigation.
Their only advice to me was to “file with your insurance.” I was renting, and didn’t have the forethought at the time to get renter’s insurance, so I was out several thousand dollars in stuff.
This was in a very affluent suburb of Dallas.
Yes, like alcohol.
The difference, though, is that alcohol intoxicates in very predictable incremental degrees. How do you get just “a little” intoxicated on MJ or cocaine?
So sorry to hear about that.
In my case, I had a strong suspicion that the police knew - or suspected - who did it. No concrete evidence for that, just a gut feel based on their reactions. I sent a letter to the Chief of Police and asked him if there would be an investigation if his house was burglarized. I pointed out that I pay taxes and that I should receive equal treatment. They sent someone to take fingerprints. IMO the guy they sent was nice, but a nincompoop who had never done it before and they sent him just to shut me up.
