With that many trees down, they should just clear and
put up new infrastructure. More hardened concrete
hangers.

I am curious to know how far the water tower was leaning in 150 mph winds.

The news has been so much more subdued on this much more VIOLENT hurricane than we heard about on Florence. What’s the difference?

Baseball field looks playable. The rest of the place is wrecked.

Those were probably just the ones undergoing maintenance that couldn’t be flown out.

Looks like every building on base was either flattened or damaged.

OMG. Its going to take years to recover from this, if they recover at all.

Florence lasted longer and did more damage by flooding. This was more like Andrew zipping through and damaging primarily by wind. Florence took so long tgat everyone could send a news crew.

Side question, is the helicopter supposed to be flying over the military base? Regardless of the situation, I think fly restrictions still apply.

Most of those buildings weren’t designed to withstand even moderately high winds.

All lot of them are metal, and built like older mobile homes.

The few concrete buildings with flat roofs did very well.

I drove right past Tyndall last week. It is right on the coast. I was worried about all the people there.

I believe Tyndall got it about as bad as anywhere else got this storm.

I always wondered if the old museum aircraft every AFB has are tied to the ground well. Apparently 3 out of 4 were.

The outdoor flipped jet was a “gate guard” and looked like it was only restrained by it’s undercarriage with no tie-down chains. It’s amazing it didn’t travel further.

Hopefully the jets inside the damaged roof hangars will be repairable - lots of pieces out here in Tucson at the D-M boneyard.

THAT is why the NWS puts out warnings.

For all those people who blow off the warnings as *hype*, you get situations like this that are not hyped at all.

Since many hurricanes have the potential to do this kind of damage, they HAVE to warn people.

If they didn’t and people died, those who complain the loudest about hype would be the ones calling for their heads.

Spent 3 months in Mexico Beach back in ‘67 when my dad was at Tyndall requalifying in Voodoos after 2 years in Pakistan. Great place for an 8 year old with a fishing pole!
