Was discriminated against on my Correctional Sergeant’s test back in ‘84. I had a 92, and saw people with a lesser score move ahead of me on the list because of minority extra points. I’m a white female, and there were fewer of us in the department than there were minority women. The majority of them worked in downstate facilities, and outnumbered white female officers state-wide. I ended up having to wait 5 years for my promotion because of those extra points. I lost time in title (seniority), and pay grade increase all that time, and It put me behind in pursuing promotion to Lieutenant. I retired in 2003, and never forgave Mario Cuomo for playing his political games. It was the one and only time they ever gave minority points on a promotional test.
