Trump is right: There's no possible way we can afford 'Medicare for all'....(Single Payer)

He's absolutely right. Voters would do well to heed his warning......According to him, if Democrats succeed in implementing their single-payer proposal, "costs will spiral out of control. Taxes will skyrocket. And Democrats will seek to slash budgets for seniors' Medicare, Social Security and Defense." (to pay for it)

A government takeover of the health system would be a fiscal nightmare. .."Medicare for all" would cost the federal government an additional $32.6 trillion in spending over its first 10 years, according to a recent analysis by Charles Blahous at the Mercatus Center. Even if the government doubled the amount of federal income and corporate tax it takes in every year, it still wouldn't be able to foot the bill.

"Medicare for all" would result in massive tax hikes and a wave of hospital and clinic closings. And with the increased burden on taxpayers will come lengthy waits times, rationed care, and doctor shortages. As President Trump is arguing, voters simply can't afford to take the plunge.

Lately championed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the ill-conceived socialist dream of "Medicare for all" is gaining steam. Sixteen Democratic senators have co-sponsored the legislation. And a whopping 123 House Democrats, representing more than 60 percent of the minority party, support a related bill. Moreover, many candidates running for office have embraced the idea.

California does not have a Single-Payor system. Now Massachusetts does courtesy of Mitt Romney and it's blowing their budget to Hell.

Only if they have the capability to cover their own old age health care costs.

I have said many times, when I was working in the British NHS a few decades ago, I was making peanuts as I wasn’t a registered tech over there. My tax bite was 50%. That was THE LOWEST TAX BRACKET THEN. I don’t know what their brackets look like now, but it cannot be much better. In the 60’s, the high earners tax bracket was 95%. Yeah, that Socialism really works well for all the people! /s

I wouldn’t know their tax bracket except it’s high...but Sweden and a few of the others pay through the nose!

Interesting. Certainly down from the 80’s. But Thatcher WAS busy dismantling as much of British Socialism as she could at the time.

I liked Thatcher for the most part......she did try... but Europe itself is on a downward slope and will likely soon be looking for that man of the hour to rescue the EU and all which pertains to it.

If they pull this off does this mean that everyone who paid for Medicare since 1964 will get that money refunded to them?

That’s the legacy ol Hillary was referencing when she said her party isn’t getting what they want and what’s being destroyed now. They built ‘their empire’ within the halls of ‘our’ government and we’re destroying what they built and they know it!

It’s not just a matter of affordability. There needs to be an unregulated private health care system to provide free choice in doctors and competitive options. A government monopoly in medicine means lower quality and less choice.

No I don’t want single payer EVER! Where did you get that idea? I’m just saying that Medicare is forced on us at age 65 and many doctors don’t want to touch it because of how little it pays. If we don’t have a secondary carrier, we’re screwed and into owing a lot of money. Hospitals and physicians have contract on what they will pay. What they bill is another story and they “write off” what is owed. Call it the “game.”

You want an example? A colonoscopy was billed out at $5,000 or 6,000 and Medicare paid $700. Do you want to pick up the difference? Skin in the game?

I was being facetious.

I’m still waiting for those $2,500 Yearly Obamacare savings Checks to arrive.

I’m owed $12,500 by Obama the way I figure it.

You are free to pay for your own coverage ya know....I suspect the gov. wouldn't object if you didn't use medicare.

That's right....skin in the game....that's why you supplement medicare. Still sounds like you expect the gov. to pick it all up.
