Let me get this straight. Currently, in the HOUSE, the GOP has 238 and the Dimms have 197. This Dude is predicting that the Dimms are going to win 42 seats?

I think all that they need to win are 21 seats ...
If the Dimms win 21 seats, that puts them at 218. For each seat that the Dimms pick up, the GOP loses one. So the GOP loses 21 seats, that puts them at 217.

Somebody please correct me if my math or "figgering" is off ...

They only need to flip 21 Seats, not 42.

21, not 42. Each Rat win also counts as a GOP loss. The magic number of seats for majority is 218.

42 is the difference. If Dems pick up 22 then 197 + 22 = 219 while Repubs 238 - 22 = 216

The Dems only have to flip 21 seats to get a majority. I

They only need to flip 21 seats. Every seat a Dem wins, the difference goes down by two.

If Rs lose one, Ds gain it.

So if it’s currently 238-197, the Rs can lose 20 seats [meaning the Ds gain those 20] and _still_ hold a 218-217 majority.

Ds have to “flip” 21 seats to gain the house majority.

I don’t think they will. I think Rs hold it.

It's actually 21 seats they would need to win as that would give them 218 and the Republicans 217.

But relax, it's not going to happen. The Dems would need to essentially "run the table" on the contested seats in order for that to happen. I suggest you read posts by "LS" who is probably the best analyst on FR. The Dems are rapidly running out of runway as seat after seat is starting to turn the GOP's way.

LS was dead on accurate during the 2016 election and has an excellent track record in the special elections since then. He knows his stuff and backs it up with real data.

I think the opposition party picks up an average of 37 some odd seats in midterm elections.

But politics since 2016 has been crazy. I have no idea whether that number has any meaning today.

They’d need only 21 to get control.
