I had to question this as well, usually consulates are pretty good (but not perfect) for minimizing any spying. When you look at the timing of this, you have to ask how they got information out this quick without having to go through a lot of “chains of command” to get approvals. However on the news this morning, it was reported that he had his Apple watch recording to his phone left outside the consulate with his girlfriend. Take that with a grain of salt, but it would explain how the information got out and got out so quick.
