“...NAZI is an abbreviation for National Socialist.” [abclily, post 13]

No it isn’t.

It’s slangy German jargon, an abbreviation of the acronym NSDAP, “National Sozialistische Deutscher Arbeiter Partei” - National Socialist German Workers’ Party in English translation. It was founded expressly to counteract what many in Germany saw as over-concentration of power in industrial and commercial corporate entities: a key talking point for the Progressive Left everywhere. Even today.

The Nazi strategy emphasized racial identity politics, radical environmentalism,”healthfood” diets, and extreme forms of nationalism to gather followers and build power.

The Progressive Left in the United States, Britain, and on the Continent were infatuated with Nazi and Italian Fascist ideology and goals, making plain their affection in endless propaganda, public statements, even song lyrics.

The Left fell out of love for two reasons:

1. The Nazis attacked their favorite country, the USSR.

2. The Holocaust.

After VE Day, the Left realized they had a looming public-relations problem thanks to their early advocacy of Nazi policies; they fantasized that the Nazis had “in reality” been Right Wing, and they made most others agree. The media, academia, and religious organizations cooperated eagerly. Now it’s “conventional wisdom” that the Nazis had been on the Right from the beginning.
