the instances of “elder abuse” I am aware of was within their own family. It was verbal, and manipulating money. The ‘elder” could have and should have stopped it years ago, but allowed it to continue.
an outsider cannot step in, because the abused party will deny everything.
It’s tough!
We went through 3 years of court after Hubby’s sister took their dad down to his attorney’s office (while he had dementia) and had the trustee changed to her. Immediately had him declared incompetent by his doctor, threw him in an assisted living, cashed out $500k worth of cd’s and put them in an account with only her name on it. She flat out stole it. We were in court trying to get the trusteeship back so we could get him back in his home and have him cared for with his money. That is what he had preciously told hubby he wanted.
He died before the case was settled. Our attorney had all the proof of what she did. Put it all in a binder that was indexed by date and highlighted with her crimes, then hand walked it over to the District Attorney’s office. They never did a thing.
This is why people keep doing stuff like this. They get away with it and all the money.
I simply told her she’d burn in hell for what she did to her dad. She is a huge Catholic.
