The economy is roaring, the courts are turning right and trade wars are not producing defeats. As the presidents approval rating creeps up, is it all going right for Republicans?
A strong economy with joblessness at its lowest rate for nearly half a century. A new trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Hopes of peace in the Korean peninsula. No major terrorist attacks on the homeland. A week that began with cheers at the White House for a new supreme court justice and ended with the release of an American pastor from jail in Turkey.
An alien who landed in Washington today might be forgiven for assuming the president is a highly successful leader, wildly popular with the public. But then someone would have to patiently explain, Let me tell you about Donald Trump
Opponents accuse Trump of trading in misogyny, racism, mendacity, crassness and chaos, as painfully documented by authors Michael Wolff and Bob Woodward. They also contend that the policy wins listed above are hollow. An economy built on Barack Obamas foundations, tax cuts that favour the rich, mounting national debt; a supreme court nominee rammed through in a show of contempt for women; a love-in with North Koreas dictator; self-destructive trade wars and a surrender of global leadership.
Nevertheless, like Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher, Trump has already passed the test of making himself consequential and handing his conservative supporters a narrative. Liberal-baiting cheerleaders include White House counsel Kellyanne Conway, press secretary Sarah Sanders and former House speaker Newt Gingrich, the author of books such as Understanding Trump and Trumps America: The Truth about Our Nations Great Comeback....

Whatever they do, though, it won’t work. They don’t know how to deal with Trump. Everything they try backfires.
Hi.
“If the Left gets cucked in November, “
Sessions, Rosenstein and Mueller are history, or toast depending how far you want to go....
Cankles is done too, along with Comey and McCabe etc.

They can plot all they want but in the end they need a candidate. And right now I don't see one who could beat Trump.
The GOP is NOT going to lose control of the House or Senate......fact!
Globalist conspiracy is working hard to derail the Trump Train....
The main threat to Trumps reelection: The lunatic head of the Fed is committed to continually raising interest rates, regardless of whether theres any sign of inflation. The rate increases could start impacting the economy some time next year
Our God is greater than the Baals of globalist neo-pagan secret societies....
Basically, the Democrats need black voters to turn out in the first place (in the absence of Obama running) and then vote for their guy. So, if it isn't Booker, I'm not sure how they'll do that.
That is what the poster meant.
The last time 33% of blacks voted for a republican was in 1960 and that was for Nixon against Kennedy. Then there was the civil rights bill and it has been 90%+ black vote for dems ever since.
Blacks will never vote in such high numbers for pubs ever again. The cultural taboo is too high amongst blacks. But every percent helps. I would love to be wrong.
Newt has been terrific in defending the President. I truly hope we can pull it out this fall. I never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter but I will go do my part to keep the House (even though they don’t deserve it). The GOP has hindered Trump more than the Democrats have. Still, I hope the economy will be enough wind at their backs for men to vote to uphold the Trump agenda.
I am not a believer in “positive thinking” but *fingers crossed*.
Thanks 2ndD! That was a well written piece. GO TRUMP!
“He’s got about 39% approval among AA voters. If only half that turn out to support him, the Dems are doomed.” DOOMED.
And, inertia being what it is, if even half these hypothetical AA R voters still vote R, for even on or two elections post-trump, they are doomed permanently.
So, I think we can expect to see a Black candidate for Pres, or at least VP in 2020. Kamala Harris, anyone? Top or bottom of the ticket?
Cory Booker’s a moron, I don’t think even the Dems are that dumb, but we’ll see.
That is a huge concern. Plus, Greenspan wasn't kidding when he called the markets "irrational." If a huge market crash occurs at the wrong time...
Kind of sad that we need the Guardian to have such an in-depth story with such honesty.
Very nice, but eternal vigilance and please no overconfidence.
Get every Conservative, or even Republican, you know motivated to show up and vote. Offer rides if they're old or in need of extra motivation.
There is nothing in America that represents the interest of globalism more than the Fed, which as many forget is actually a private bank. They want their money and they have carte blanche power to do so. This is the real danger of the Fed - they make money with inflation and they have enormous power. They bent over backwards to support their worldview in the last administration by minimizing the suck caused by the policies of the left with pumping. Without the Fed, the policies of the last administration would not have been possible without a bloodbath politically, but an aggressive Fed and free money financed it all to the tune of 8 trillion plus in money our children now owe and will pay back.
I have no issues if they raise the rate to fight inflation, but Trump appears to be right - they are taking an action to counter something that is not there and by doing so they appear to be clearly taking a side politically. Just my .02
That was my first thought: It must be political. The rate was near 0 for both O terms. Of course, if Hillary had won and they raised the rate, she would probably complain. But would they raise the rate with H in charge?
Never count your chickens 2 years before they’re hatched
