President Trump said he is unsure whether Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will leave the administration and described him as “sort of a Democrat,” amid reports of friction between the two.
Trump made the remarks in an interview with CBS News’s “60 Minutes” that airs Sunday night. An excerpt of the interview was released Sunday morning.
“Well, I don’t know; he hasn’t told me that,” Trump said when asked whether Mattis might be leaving his position.
Trump said that he has a “very good relationship” with Mattis and that the two had lunch together “two days ago,” but the president added that “it could be that he is” leaving.
“I think he’s sort of a Democrat, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “But General Mattis is a good guy. We get along very well. He may leave. I mean, at some point, everybody leaves. Everybody. People leave. That’s Washington.”
Mattis has often publicly walked back some of Trump’s more controversial statements on foreign policy, and the two have a strained relationship, veteran journalist Bob Woodward has reported in his book “Fear.”
In one episode reported by Woodward, Mattis described Trump as having the understanding of “a fifth- or sixth-grader” after a National Security Council meeting. In another episode, after Trump said he wanted to have Syrian President Bashar al-Assad assassinated, Mattis reportedly agreed but later told an aide, “We’re not going to do any of that.”

The Trans issue is a major distraction to military training, and it should be somehow ‘resolved’ before even applying to join. IOW, If you are ‘still trying to find yourself, genderwise’, come to the military AFTER that has been accomplished not during the metamorphosis, b/c that issue will be first and foremost on your mind, not your trainning.
These are the Armed Services, they are not Finishing Schools.

I don;t like Mattis at all. I wish both he and the Sleepy Dwarf would hit the road.
They drink the leftist koolaid along the way to assure career progression. First in small doses as junior officers subjugating themselves to holding up social justice policies and checking the EO blocks on their efficiency reports.
Once promoted to field grade, they get the full blood transfusion in academia while getting their obligatory advanced degrees. As senior field grades they finish their senior service schools run by leftist and neocon professors for another indoctrinal dump, then they get selected and nominated for GO, then off to charm school to finish the job.
The Kenyanesian Usurper purged all of the warriors out of the military and only promoted those perfumed princes who saluted the transgenderizing of our military.
That is some of the worst damage done from ignoring the natural born citizen requirement.

General Keane is the exception to the rule and is a NeoCon and heads up the Institute for the Study of War which is a NeoCon think tank. All NeoCons are republicans.
Republican presidents usually appoint a NeoCon to SecDef and Realists to National Security Advisor and SecState.
But Trump has NeoCons as NSA and SecState and A Realist(Mattis) at SecDef
We have never had a more plain spoken President who says it how he sees it. Doesn’t hold back. Pure truth. The commie dems don’t like it though so they call Trump a liar. So he’s a liar because he tells the truth; just not what they want to hear? Leftists truly are brain damaged.
I assure you that not all general officers are democrats. Most are not but one thing you learn early in the military is keep your head down and your nose clean. My father and grandfather were generals but were definitely republicans. It does no good to die on the wrong hill.

I never trusted him. When my democrat family member said he was one of Trump’s very few good choices, I knew she was parroting MSNBC, and I had bad vibes about the guy.

It seems like within today's pentagon, if you are a lefty you can be who you are. If you are not, you have to keep your head low, as you say. So I stand by my prior statement, if you are an openly PC guy who embraces the left wing cause du jour (gays in the military, trans in the military, women in combat, women in SOCOM, etc) then you can say so loundly and get rewarded for it. If you oppose such social engineering, you better keep quiet or prepare your resume for your post-military career before you speak out.
All you need to know about Mattis is that he went from a Major General to a full-General during Obama’s tenure. Republican administrations will, on occasion, promote a worthy officer. But you can bet that Obama looked into his political affiliation before nominating him for his last couple of jobs prior to his retirement. I see no evidence that Mattis is a conservative or a Republican.
Also, we can hope that after the mid-term elections that with or without Mattis the blanket acceptance of females in the combat arms will be reversed. If Mattis doesn’t get his rear-in-gear he will be asked for his resignation.
