In my estimation, Sherman was the greatest general in American history (Washington gives him a run for his money, though). He understood war. He ended the Civil War, decisively.

Sherman introduced modern, total warfare. It would not be until the 1940’s that the world would have one word to describe his policies.

Dan Morgan was far superior and Patton would leave Sherman in the dust!
